Wow. Just.....WOW. What an absolute whirlwind my internship at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has been so far. At the risk of sounding like SUCH an intern cliche, this time at the Department has really exceeded all my expectations. Oh, and it seems that I've made quite an impact on them as well.......

Not bad for my first few weeks there! Okay, yes I realise that this is just a very favourable IT mistake, but I really like the sound of it. A bit of a motivator perhaps?
You probably read the title of this entry and pulled a "what is she talking about? she IS an intern" face. And I totally understand why. I walked into DFES on my first day and I actually wasn't nervous, I was just damn excited. This state prevailed until about ten minutes into the first day, and then the nerves set in. That office is a total hub of activity, with everyone doing ten things at once, but they were all so calm and so capable, and i was SO not.
So there I was, losing my bundle while doing nothing. Not my highest point. But then I was told by a senior SES member "You're doing fine, you just wrote a speech for the Commissioner! You just need to get rid of the "i'm just the intern" mentality!"
Needless to say I walked away with a spring in my step :)
