I thought to myself, "Working on a Sunday night had never felt so good."

Reaching the 7th week of my internship, I cannot help but thought to myself, how far have I came. Remembering the first week of my internship, how everything feels like "blank space" to me, I actually made it. Even better, I had learnt so much. Feeling so out of my comfort zone, I had to admit, it wasn't as easy as I thought. But throughout my days where as a "newbie" I could only be grateful for the patience and generous teachings my supervisor and colleagues had for me. In seven weeks, I have had a chance to have first hand experience of working over time and coming back to work on a Sunday. This is unusual to me as my working hours are from Mondays to Thursday, 9am to 6pm and 9am to 5pm on Fridays.

I am sure, whoever is given a choice to work on a weekend or to spend the day anyhow you want - go for a dip in the pool, have some high tea with great company, just lay back and relax, the more favourable choice is obviously pretty clear.

Well last Sunday, I had the pleasure to meet and dine in with a group of eight amazingly experienced people from Australia who came for a familiarization of the resort. This group is made out of people from PR firms, journalists and editors of travels magazines. In a familiarization, the resort will host them to an all-expenses-paid (sometimes by the Sabah Tourism Board) for them to stay and familiarize themselves with the facilities of the resort in order, in a way also, hope in return that there would be article featuring Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa.

Despite the 5 star quality of fine dining dishes and amazing wine to go with, these people were just sharing to me about how the media and public relations work as a compliment to each other. I personally thought it was an insightful sharing as they continue to share about how the industry works. How building a relationship is necessary to go beyond. I couldn't agree more and all I could thought off was how lucky I am to have landed an internship that enables me to have first hand experience of the life of a PR person.

The same Friday, I had the chance to be part of the welcoming team during the installation of the
Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC). Being in the communications team, we had to always be ready to take photos for of the scene for write ups and press releases. I have to admit, that was the first time I've seen the chief minister! Certainly worth working the extra hours to be able to witness how the communications team work. From the biggest detail to the smallest detail, the planned it all which I thought was an amazing job.

That is all for now. Till next time! :)

Cheers,
Alexandrina.
