This will be my last post onto the walls of PR 393 Reflective Blog, and that I am proud! This blog will also be apart of the last assignment I submit for my degree! And, today, was my last ever day at Curtin university, where I completed my last presentation and tute! HOORAY!
On that note, I just wanted to wind up my experience at Bowls WA and really thank my supervisor and the team for welcoming me into their world. They gave me an insight into the public relations industry and for that I am extremely greatful! I was given the opportunity to full-fill a wide variety of communication activities, from e-newsletters, magazine articles to event coordination. The theory practice I learnt at university have definitely shrined through within my internship experience.
I have learn some new skills too! I learnt about Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and website maintenance! These skills I hope to further even more once I step out into my industry.
So on that note, I hope you all had as enjoyable internship experience as myself, and that your final reports have come together smoothly! Good luck with all of your exams, and I'll see you at GRADUATION! HOORAY!
Kind regards,
Lauren Hannah

Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students. As time has gone by...
Since my first post I have accomplished a lot at my internship!
Bowls WA had their Annual Awards Night a few weeks ago, and I was given many tasks to help out with. I had exciting tasks such as creating the Award Night Program Guides, VIP Table name cards and even the award winner envelopes. Unfortunately due to my own part-time job commitments, I was unable to make the actual event – Looking through all the photos, it was definitely a big night for all who went to the Burswood Entertainment Complex!
Bowls WA have also given me full responsibility for writing their monthly e-newsletters. Their e-newsletters normally consist of 2 A4 pages of information, and are not only emailed to their e-mailing list, but these are also archived on their website for all clubs to view. So far my e-newsletters have consisted of information on competition news, game rule changes, correct shoes for play, charity cake bakes, government grant offers and plenty more. The diversity of each newsletter is great, and really gets me working on my writing skills. It is definitely one of the better tasks I have been given at my internship!
Bowls WA currently do not have a strong social media policy in place; as they do not currently utilise social media as much as they would like. So, my supervisor gave me the task of collaborating with Bowls Australia and writing Bowls WA a social media policy. After researching fellow sporting organisations and their current policies, and using Bowls Australia’s social media policy as a guide, the process was actually quite easy. I finished writing the policy, and this has been sent off to my supervisor and Bowls Australia for approval – once this has been approved, Bowls WA can then start utilising social media to is maximum potential!
Until my next blog.. have fun at your internships!

A little look into my Professional Placement....
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to my first blog!
New to the blogging scene, a little bit nervous yet excited, so hopefully I provide a good read!
My PR 393 Professional Placement isn't your expected scene for a mid twenty something university student, yet my completed days so far have definitely been interesting. I am completing my professional placement days at the Head Office of Bowls WA.
Bowls WA is an organisation responsible for advancing, promoting and controlling the game of lawn bowls in WA. The organisation is in affiliation with Bowls Australia, who are the national sporting organisation responsible for developing and managing the sport of lawn bowls. While many people still believe the sport is only played by retirees, national census statistics prove that the sport is actually very popular with school children and social corporate bowlers!
Bowls WA is one of the largest sporting organisations in WA, consisting of 18, 965 members from over 200 clubs. The organisation is managed by a board of eight directors and has a small team of seven full time staff members. Bowls WA takes on a variety of tasks including promoting the sport, conducting State championships, conducting pennant competitions, managing interstate teams, training and giving assistance to clubs and members with management issues.
Whilst PR practices vary from business to business, I hope to gain as much experience as possible during my stay. I will be working closely with the Public Relations and Marketing team and I look forward to sharing all my days with you.
I hope you enjoy my blogs!
Kind regards,
Lauren Hannah
