Work on progress: TO DO LIST

My mentor who is also our regional business director Jillyn asked me to outline all that i have learned for the past 5 weeks and outline all that i wish to acomplish before my internship ends in 3 weeks time.

Dear Raymond,

As per our conversation this morning, please send me a brief update on the tasks you have undertaken since the beginning of your internship, and a list of five things you would like to experience / do with regard to client servicing / PR consulting before the end of your internship.

If you can send me that email by the end of today, I will try to help you realize your Top 5 list as much as possible.

Best regards,

Jill

6 weeks progress in Perception Management

I had a slow start in PERCEPTION MANAGEMENT SDN BHD due to the fact that it looked like there was no proper structure in place by the time to guide through the activities of an intern. But that has now been raised in one of the meetings lately and looks like there is progress as the other new intern is already on board with some good work.

Nevertheless my first introduction to industry public relations was the news monitoring which was different form the one I did while in college. In college we were only monitoring any article that has something to do with public relations there were no clients involved and I could monitor any medium. There monitoring progress was expected for submission weekly and only one article from radio, television or print media.

The industry is more specialized with a direction, the monitoring is based on clients that we are serving and the alert has to be sent to the client every morning at least before tea time. This has taught me a great deal about media relation. And to the fact that when there is a direct mentions on media about your client it’s a must that one inform them in person about the mention.

I got a chance to be involved on events as I help in preparing the media invitation for Unilever New Chairman Cocktail at Hilton Hotel. As much as I helped on the media registration. It was a great deal to be in contact with the media and see how the media is handled at events.

The most rewarding part was when the article about the event that I helped plan was published the next morning on The Sun Daily news paper. It is the ultimate objective of the event which is to get coverage and that means a job well done.

I also sharpen my PR writing skills by taking on the role to write an article on

the Karaoke night for Perceptions Perceptions internal newsletter which has

since been published and I was happy to receive comments from my

Colleagues on a job well done.

The most challenging part of the 5 weeks I would say is on the monthly report c compilation. I personally believe it’s a bit confusing to compile a report for a

client which you don not do the news monitoring for. But since that’s the way

Its done here I have no choice but to follow the suit. I managed to finish doing

the EPF monthly report and I am still working on the SunCity report which I

should have finished by now but getting caught up with urgent assignments.

Making calls to the media for invitations has been a problem to me because I

Do not sound Asian and the media hardly believe me as they have to ask for

Confirmation from the office if I exist.

I also do daily monitoring of The Sun newspaper and New Sunday Times.
