All over red rover!

Hi Everyone

This is my final blog entry! For the last three entries I had focused on a particular project that I was able to get involved with during my time at PPR, but for my final entry I thought I would list a couple of smaller projects I was able to work on from a variety of different clients!

Some tasks;

-         -  Update radio data base: just ringing up all the different radio stations in WA (there is actually so many!) and confirming different producers, announcers, news reporters etc. So that records are up to date if any of these stations needed to be contacted. Every intern is given a medium

-         -  Moving offices! An exciting time for PPR was the change of their offices. Now in West Perth, PPR has a lovely new furnished open space office that is sure to impress! So much needed to be done including packaging, unpacking, destroying of information and general cleaning

-         - Creating stakeholder data bases for a variety of clients including; the cancer council (for purple bra day), St. Barts, MdHappy Day and Stockland homes!

-        -  Media clipping reports for Purple Bra Day, which was just a report I put together which was a summary of the media coverage Purple Bra day saw and a brief description

-        -  McHappy Day ambassadors; where I needed to find out which personalities would be in Perth for McHappy Day to be possible ambassadors for this amazing charity

-        -  Blog Monitoring, where I needed to keep track of any mentions of Purple Bra Day from a list of around 50 bloggers who PPR had reached out to about doing possible entries for this great cause.

What have I learnt? So much, my blog entries are only a small fraction of what I was able to experience. Working in a consultancy environment gave me to opportunity to work on so many different briefs for different clients which was so good as I got to do little bits and pieces.

Overall my time at PPR taught me so much and I have had the most amazing experience working for such an amazing professional company that really is top notch when it comes to public relations!

I hope that everyone else who is doing PR Internship also had such rich experience and loved it as much as I did!!

Thanks for reading!

Emily

It's all about building relationships!

Hi Everyone,

For this blog entry I’m going to talk about my experience with PPR and their community engagement strategies for their clients.

Cedar Woods is developing an aged housing establishment in Carine and as part of a community engagement technique needed myself and an admin assistant to go around the surrounding suburbs issuing letter to the community to let them know what is being planned.

Now in my final semester at uni, I’m taking the unit PR Consultancy which has a higher emphasis on community engagement and different practices that different stakeholders receive based primarily on their involvement within the community.  Basically the more the project is to affect the stakeholder, the higher level of engagement which decides which practice principle to apply.

In this case, the surrounding community isn’t going to be affected by the again center development besides the occasional construction maybe slowing down the flow of traffic. Therefore the best practice principle was to issue letters to the surrounding community.

This experience was really good because it allowed me to get involved with practicing community engagement which is important in any project!!!

Till next time,

Emily

MoMa! Amazing Press Launch

Hi Everyone,

This is my second blog entry and I wanted to talk about the highlight of my experience working with PPR, the press launch of the MoMa series at the AGWA.

The MoMa exhibition is an art series that has travelled from New York to bring famous art pieces from amazing artists such as Van Gogh to Perth! AGWA is a client of PPR and since they are a government funded organization and receive limited funding, I was able to be involved hands on because as an intern, PPR does not charge for my help and service.

The day before the launch, I spend the afternoon putting together around a hundred media kits for the media guests who were expected to attend the launch. Whilst doing this I actually learnt about how events around Perth are on “the list” of major media outlets, and depending on what news breaks in the morning determine which events get coverage!

On the Wednesday, the day of the press launch I was given the job to hand out the media kits, greet media guest and mark the guest list. After the opening speeches I was able to view the amazing artwork which truly was a site to see!

It was so good to experience an event that had taken many weeks to prepare and to actually attend a press launch! Have in my studies written mock plans for press releases and opening speeches, but to experience this first hand was an absolute delight and was the highlight of my time at PPR!

Until next time,

Emily

Research Reseach Research

Hi Everyone,

I’m Emily from Curtin Bentley Campus. In June I was able to get the opportunity to do my internship it PPR. For those that haven’t heard about this PR firm, PPR (Professional Public Relations) is one of the largest consultancy's in WA and has multiple houses all over Australia and America. PPR handles the PR accounts of hundreds of high profiled clients including McDonalds Australia, Bunning’s, Rio Tine, Cedar Woods and the Cancer Council.

For my blog entries I’ve decided to do discuss the different projects that I had the privilege to have worked during my working experience. For this blog entry I will be discussing the project I started on my first day at the PPR house in Subi (later move to West Perth) for the client for Cedar Woods.

The Situation

The Point Peron / Mangles Bay project has been in the spotlight for years and there has always been huge community outcry on their opinions for this development. In general there has been huge negative backlash but Cedar Woods would like to establish a development to revamp the Rockingham area similar to what had been done in Hillaries.

Cedar Woods had an upcoming case with the council on this matter and needed to get some support material for their case.

My Job

My job was to develop material that could be useful for the case to combat the opposition group’s points.
Firstly I needed to go through all the media clippings that had been collected on this matter over the last couple of years to get a good understanding of the project and the project problems that had arisen thus far. From this I needed to read all the letters to the editor from a variety of media outlets such as community newspapers and magazines, and make a list of the pros and cons including their opinions and location.
In protest to this development, a group put together a signature list consisting of over 8000 people's support to suppress this development. I then had to go through these signatures, find out where they were coming
from (suburbs) and state whether they were for/against and it was a real signature or a fake one.

From all of this information, I was asked to make graphs and visual aids to demonstrate this research so that Cedar Woods could use in their case.

I had started this project on my first day PPR and I finished it off on the last week I was there. It just goes to show how many hours have been put in for proper research and development of material. From the past three years studying I have been taught different techniques for research and development, but I didn’t actually realize how important this stage is for the project brief as a whole as it ultimately lays down the foundation.

My next couple of blogs will focus on the MoMa art series at the Art Gallery, Stakeholder Engagement and other smaller projects I have been able to work on.

Until next time,

Emily
