One of my final tasks on the job was writing a script.
Finally my writing would be recognised for its real potential, the big screen
and by the big screen I mean radio!
The script was going to be used for a radio advertisement
about a person who is sick of renting and looking to get their first home. The
ad is suppose to convey someone who is frustrated with their living situation
and the solution being presented was the opportunity to buy their own home with Own Ya Home.
So naturally I tapped into my own experience as a roommate
and thought of scenarios where I wished there was an alternative to living with
my roommate.
I came up with two scenarios* that would allow listeners to resonate with
the emotion of the character and in turn encourage them to pick up the phone to get out the situation. The first being the sound of toe nails being
clipped in a shared space such as the lounge room (side note: If you aren’t
grossed out by this, it means you are the obscene toe nail clipper, sorry you
had to find out on the internet) the roommate shrieks and says I need to get
out of here! and then the Own Ya Home information comes through in a
different voice with a call to action and then back to the character as if
replying to the voice over saying “one phone call and I’m outta here”. The
second scenario I developed was someone taking too long in the shower, the same
frustration is conveyed and again is easy for listeners to resonate with, a
call to action and the character replying with the tagline “one phone call and
I’m outta here”.
This task was really enjoyable for me and it was great to
see what goes into developing a script for this medium of entertainment. I also
found out later that my scenarios were used in a pop art designed banner for
the website, I am so thrilled to be able to show the different mediums these
scenarios can be used for.
And so that concludes my internship, I am now relocating to
Hollywood.
