Hi everyone!
This is the beginning of my blogging experience. I hope to
provide you all with value information to give you an insight into the
placement I have been completing, just as you all have with your blogs.
I’m sure most of you, if not all of you have heard of Alcoa.
Alcoa of Australia’s operations represent the world’s largest bauxite mining
company. Basically, Alcoa mine, refine and create aluminium – in the cans we
drink from, the bikes we ride, the planes we fly in, and many other aspects of
our everyday lives.
I was lucky enough to become a part of the Corporate Affairs
team, consisting of 16 employees in Western Australia – and for now one intern,
me! As the first intern to become a part of the Corporate Affairs team at
Alcoa, I was a little apprehensive, but mostly excited for the upcoming
experience.
Over the course of my internship at Alcoa, I have been
introduced and delegated tasks relating to many topics we have learned at
university. It has been interesting to see the importance of confidentiality.
Of course we had learned in lectures and tutorials a basic understanding of
confidentiality, though I never realised just how important confidentiality was
until I began placement here. It has also been interesting to see so far the
extent in how difficult approvals can be in such a large company, something that usually would take less than a day can take weeks or months.. waiting, waiting, waiting.
So far, my time here has been nothing but positive. I am
really enjoying the work I have been allocated, and look forward to explaining
more!
That’s all for now :)
