It has been a few weeks now since my last blog post and it
feels like time has just flown by. It’s all full steam ahead at my internship, with
work flowing in as quickly as we are churning it out.
Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to apply
not only my skills in the area of public relations, but also my skills in the
area of marketing. When I first started I was worried that I was undertaking a
higher level of marketing focused tasks, however now I feel is has come around
full circle and has really evened out.
In one of my latest tasks, I was asked to develop a
Marketing Action Plan with a strong PR focus on the communication channels we
would use to communicate the key message to the identified target publics. The
client was a local mobile recording studio servicing musicians and artists
across the local Perth music scene.
When I first started working on the marketing action plan I
realised it was more PR focused than marketing focus. The aim was to increase and
build awareness across the local Perth music scene of the services offered by
the mobile music studio. This was such a fun and exciting project to work on, undertaking
research into the local Perth music scene and looking at prominent local music,
entertainment and art’s publications, venues, networking opportunities and
influences in social media.
X-Press Magazines was one of the Publications targeted as it is one of the most prominent local entertainment magazines target the the primary target publics nominated.

Furthermore, venues such as the Fremantle Arts Centre was identified as a venue likely to provide networking opportunities and potential partnership opportunities as the venue is host to many of the clients primary target publics.

I developed three core strategies, which included increasing
awareness of the company profile, engaging directly with target publics and
establishing partnership opportunities. Each strategy was actioned by a minimum
of two public relations themed tactics to support the strategies.
I really drew upon my skills from Media Relations when
undertaking this plan, as I needed to develop lists of key media contacts
tailored to ensure the key messages and strategically placed information
reached the target audience.
This was such an interesting and valuable plan to work on, as
I was able to be really creative with my ideas for the tactics recommended. I
feel my confidence in my abilities in the area of PR have increased so much
since commencing my internship. This was a highly value opportunity for me to develop
a quick ‘Communication Action Plan’ as I feel I got a lot out of the task.
I don’t see things slowing down any time soon, so stay tuned
for my next update!
Until next time,
Brooke Dawson
