Last Day at Nulsen!

Hi Everyone!

I had my last day at Nulsen today! I can't believe that my placement is over, I have had such a wonderful and rewarding time and have really learnt a lot from my time there.

As a parting gift I was given a beautiful pair of Mimco earrings, a lovely handwritten card and big bunch of flowers!!!

I have seen a noticeable improvement in my writing skills since the start of my placement, I now feel confident that I can produce a well written media release. I found it interesting to experience how the skills I have accquired at university can translate into a real life working environement. It was great to work with people who are already in the industry and were willing to provide me with advice on how to improve my work.

I found my experience at Nulsen to be very rewarding and enjoyed meeting the residents, it allowed me to see why it is so important for organisations such as Nulsen to provide essential services to those who need it the most.

I hope that everyone has had a great time on their placements! Happy report writing : )

His Excellency Malcolm McCusker announced as new Nulsen Patron.

Hi Everyone!

I can't believe I have past the halfway point!

I hope that all your placements are going well, just thought that I would drop in to to give you an update on what has been happening recently at Nulsen.

His Excellency Malcolm McCusker, the Governor of Western Australia has been announced as the new Patron of Nulsen Association. His Excellency will commence in this role January 2012, replacing current Patron media personality Tina Altieri.
The addition of such a high profile patron provides fantastic opportunities for Nulsen to raise awareness of their Association within the West Australian community.

I was given the opportunity to write a media release announcing the appointment of His Excellency as Patron. After a draft or two I succeeded in producing a well written release which now has to be sent to Government House to be cleared before it can be sent out to any media outlets.

Nulsen is also in the process of finalising their 2011 annual report which will include a new marketing and positioning strategy focusing on Human Resource Management and finding Corporate Sponsorship partners for the Association. From a strategic level the Association will focus on recruiting new staff and plan to double the size of the Association within the next two years.

The Homebuyer's Centre have also recently donated $80,000 to Nulsen and will continue to donate a portion of their profits to the Association for the next five years.

Its a busy time of year at Nulsen with the Annual General Meeting, The staff Ball and Youth Patron Program events all coming up in the next couple of months. For me this means that there is always plenty to do and I am really enjoying refining my writing skills.

well that's all from me for now.

Till next time.

Winter Wonderland Residents Cocktail Party

Hi everyone! Hope that you are all enjoying your placement. Here is a little update about what I have been up to at Nulsen.

Last Friday night (July 29) I attended the mid year cocktail party that is held for Nulsen residents, their familes and all staff members. The venue was Burswood on the Swan and the room was decorated in various blue and white tones to echo the Winter Wonderland theme. Overall the night was very sucessful with many people commenting on how great the venue looked! I found it very rewarding to see all our hard work come together and it was great to see the residents dressed in their formal clothes and having a great time. There was even a fire twirler performing outside by the river who put on a great show! All staff members and residents were given a gift of San Churros drinking chocolate and a pair of wooly sock as a keepsake of the evening.

A few things I learnt along the way when planning an event
- always expected the unexpected and be prepared to change things at the last minute! As often things will not go exactly as you planned them to.
- Its always a good idea to have a folder which contains the deatils and information of key suppliers, this will make it easy for you to contact them if you need to.
- Don't forget to try and enjoy yourself!

I hope that you are all enjoying your placements as much as I am!

Till next time
