Be PRompt. Be PRecise. Be PRimarily Trustworthy and consistent in every aspect.

Holiday Greetings!
As in all things in life, there comes a point where they must end. My internship at PPR will be over this week, and with it comes new insights into the world of PR and how things work. The fact is this: PR is business. Ethically correct business, targeted and meaningful, but business nonetheless. Clients and accounts need to be managed and looked after, in the same way a balance sheet in Accounts must balance.
Value is a subjective idea, but in PR value is reputation and time. A strong reputation ensures a lengthy relationship, and in turn there is the upselling that inevitably occurs, leading to increased business.  The interpersonal aspects of PR are based on consistency, awareness, and the acts of servicing clients as if they were the most important people in the world, as is expected. This may seem out of place, but if I were to use one word to describe PR as it appears to me, that word would be ‘thoughtful.’ In the way business interlinks, in the way solutions are creative, and in the way clients are kept satisfied- the essential ‘thoughtful.’
There is a lot more I could say, but stealing away the veil that hides the experience would be a crime. So I will leave you all with this.
Be everything you can be. You have 86 400 seconds in each day to paint the stars on the sky of what will be your careers, and your life.
Farewell and good luck to you all.

Yours sincerely

'The Pick' of the bunch

Greetings again all!

I hope you are all enjoying your holidays, while I am at work :). Being only a day since my last post this is quite unexpected that I find myself here once more. Today was a long day of researching media outlets that raise the concerns of the current Australian spying scandal, as well as media coverage that concerns oil and gas in general in East Timor. East Timor being a nation with a high level of illiteracy, the task of finding a broad source of media outlets proved to be a challenge. Credible, high quality content is a vital part of gathering information, especially within a narrow spectrum. However, I was luckily able to find some good sources that highlight issue-specific information we needed for the database/excel spread sheet.

The surprise news of the day for me however, was finding out that I had been recognised in PPR's magazine 'the Pick,' an investor focused magazine. I had done some editing, writing and research on two topics, and tried my hand at being an editorial writer. I am not the best of writers, but this sure makes me want to lift my skills! The feeling of seeing your name published in the byline section is something quite special to me. The Pick is a well edited and laid out magazine, with a high level of clarity that provides easy reading. Writing for investors means sometimes writing in a conversational style, all the while ensuring a newsworthy stance, keeping topics both very relevant and interesting. It's PR with investors in mind- and as such, it's PR with the objective of communicating to a different target audience. Providing stories that they need, useful, quality stories. This has been my understanding.

Well folks, that's all for now. I hope this is helpful :)

Until next time! Take care.

Yours sincerely

The glass is half full

Good day to you all, friends and comrades in our quest to garner knowledge!

I do bid you all a rather fearsome, yet politely optimistic good evening from here in Perth, Australia. It's about the 10 day point now, or rather a bit over I think. The glass is always half full in PR, as is optimism the very foundation of a good PR pitch, an interview, or a media release. Everything is a 'can-do' attitude,' nothing too hard, too ambitious, or impossible, as is the case at PPR. This week I found myself helping prepare an interview set, for a rather important session, with someone really influential. As to whom this person is, I'm not really sure if I'm allowed to divulge that, but believe me, it was a very amazing interview! The room was too small, yet our video team made it work like a charm, and it turned out great, and I even got to help arrange a few things. It's the 'can-do' attitude that is integral in making PR work for you.

CREED- Creative, Relentless, Effective, Empowering and Dynamic. The set of values that underline PPR. This week I got to be a little creative, in coming up with a questionnaire posing a range of meaningful questions that will hopefully help create a good story. There is a lot of theory in PR, but a lot of the time its the creativity that makes it all shine. Just like a new car won't shine forever, unless its waxed and polished. The creativity brings out the best in PR, which is why it's at the forefront of CREED.

Time as in all currencies needs to be carefully managed, and being that the case, it's about 11.10pm now, and I should really get to sleep, and log some 'non-billable'  hours into my diary :)

Until next time! Take care.

Yours sincerely

Small fish finds himself in big pond!

Hello all!

Let me first off start by introducing myself. My name is Trevor and I am a PR and Marketing student studying at Curtin in Bentley. This being my last unit, I was pretty excited to secure my place at PPR early this year in February, I know, it's way in advance! As planning well in advance is sort of my forte, I was pleased with myself for being so proactive, which as most of you know, is a useful tool too in PR. Today is Friday, and it's been a week at PPR (3 days actually due to exams etc) and my eyes are truly open..

It was always a battle of Consultancy vs In-house. The notion that a consultancy offers the best environment to establish our young minds and build off a large pool of knowledge. Well, I must say, at PPR the pool is not large at all, it's HUGE, massive, incomprehensible at first until you start piecing it all together like a puzzle that seems to work like a well oiled machine. There are three distinct departments, all work hand in hand. The support, corporate/consumer and this new term I have come across for the first time in my PR studies, the "Investor Relations" department. This department instantly drew me in, it was new, I hadn't come across it before in my studies, and I had to know how this works out. After a deep introduction and a 'sit-in' on one of the client pitches, I soon to came to appreciate how integral a broad knowledge of the business world is in PR.

The fact is this: it's not only PR people that work at a PR Consultancy, it's a range of ex-journos, mining industry experts and a range of experts that bring unparalleled experience to the team. A wealth of knowledge and clients that make everything interlinked. This is the beginning of my understanding, and I look forward to getting over my nerves( yes I was and still am settling in) and delving more into understanding and applying some real principles.

A consultancy definitely offers a wide range of disciplines to work in, and the scope to grow and develop. An integral part of PR is administration too, and in my first few days, excel spreadsheets have been my best friend =).

I hope this insight has been insightful to everyone. I look forward to sharing some more soon!

Kind Regards
