In any and every office it
is important to bond as a team and infuse a positive culture. At Concept
Marketing employees are responsible for their own clients, which results in
everyone working autonomously for the most part. Sometimes communication methods
can break down and stress levels rise due to tight deadlines. At times like
this it is important to get back to basics and initiate some good old team
building.
So Natasha (my colleague) decided to do something about it.
On Tuesday everyone came into work early with glue sticks, glitter and giant
pieces of A2 paper and bunch of old magazines. That’s right we made ourselves
some vision boards! The basic idea behind this was to sit in a group at the
conference table and flip through magazines finding things relevant to us to
achieve our goals for the next 12 months. This was a really beneficial activity
as we got to work together with both the marketing team and graphics department
sharing the personal goals we want to achieve and the vision we see for ourselves.
The idea behind a vision board is to find pictures or quotes
relevant to what you want to achieve and by putting on them on your board you
are acknowledging the greater power of the universe to help you achieve them.
Once we completed our boards we shared what we wanted to achieve, this is also
beneficial because someone at the table may have the ability to assist another
in achieving their goals. This set us up an excellent start to the day as we were
able to bond with each other and get to know one another on a more personal
level in turn creating a positive team morale.
Flowing on from this idea I suggested to the manager that we
should implement a “win” jar. A "win" jar is for designed for people to acknowledge another persons success, so every time someone makes an
achievement at work or personally someone writes it down anonymously and then at the
end of the work week we sit around and pull them out of the jar and read them
out to one another. This is a really simple act of minimal cost and that has an
extremely positive impact on employees and their morale, which really makes all
the difference when you are working in a high stress environment it is
important to take the time to stop breathe, communicate and appreciate one
another.
