Learn to SURVIVE

Hi all!

So, here I am going to continue talking about my intern life in Homes Property Management. As I mentioned before, my company's objective is to promote brand awareness. So, promotional material is a must.

After a deep discussion with Tris, we decided to redesign the company brochures first. From what we have seen in the current brochure, the pictures on the brochure are not that relevant to the company. Some of the information can be removed and the slogan can be shortened.  Besides, as it is printed in both Chinese and English versions, the translation in the Chinese version needs to be improved.

Previous version of company brochure

Our team had a longer discussion on both design and content of the brochure. As everyone has different views, we tried to work on together, listen to each other in order to get the task completed within the deadline given by our MD, Tris. I was assigned to come out with some different slogans for the company and made some short and catchy words on the content of the brochure that can be attracted by the public. However, after we had done the brochure, here comes another issue, Tris did not accept our design and content of the brochure and did not want the design of the brochure to be too complicated. So, we were told to make changes and work on it again and again.

I felt a little unhappy when Tris wanted us to redo it for a few times, but I tolerated  and learnt to respect her decision and completed it within the deadline. Besides, I have also learnt how to get along with other colleagues and listen to each other, even you didn't agree on what he/she had said. I knew that working in a real life is not that easy and this is probably what I need to learn to "SURVIVE" in a real life company.

On the other hand, I started to read more local newspapers and magazines in order to know more about the media angles each media outlet has emphasized on, so that I am able to identify which media outlet can be targeted for my company to advertise or publish feature story in future use.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the outcome of the brochure. I hope the first step of our strategies can eventually help to increase the company awareness within the local community.

More to come next week.

Internship journey starts with joy!

Hi PR interns !

I am Yee Ting and this is my first blog!

Before looking for an internship placement, lots of worries come to my mind. As being an international student, it was a tough journey for me looking for an internship placement in somewhere that I am not familiar with. So, I tried my best to send out my resume as many as possible to companies, as what I have expected, less reply was given.

So, how did I get my internship placement?

Here the story goes......

One day, me and Vincent, my classmate who is also looking for a pr internship decided to accompany one of our friend, Su Jia (who works as a marketing assistant)  to her new workplace where she has no idea how to get there. Luckily enough, we met her boss and tried to express our intention on interning as a pr assistant in her company. Tris, who is the Managing Director of Homes Property Management, accepted our resumes and we got a quick interview directly. So, I am able to work with both of my friend and classmate together under the same department, public relations and marketing department.

My friends and also my colleagues !

It's amazing to work in a real-life company.  Although it is not a pure pr company as what I wanted, I am happy that I can get an internship in Perth and work with my friends in a team too.

Homes Property Management is a new established company in 2013. Basically, all pr and marketing tasks are mostly guided and done by Tris. So, we usually have a group meeting at least one time per day to discuss the direction of the company and update our task progress to Tris. As it is a newly established company, it is important to create brand awareness to the local community in order to get more customer base. According to Tris, the company's current customers are mostly referred by friends and family. So, our first task is to develop a public relations plan.

Developing a pr plan for a real-life company is not that easy compared to the assignment requested by the particular unit in my university. Any strategy recommended in this pr plan needs to be planned carefully and implemented successfully in order to achieve the company's goal and objectives.

Even though a briefing about the company is given by my MD, Tris during my first working day, lots of extra research still need to be done such as the information of competitors and the current circumstances of property management industry, is a really tough task, especially for international student like me who does not have any knowledge in this industry in Perth. Besides, me and my colleagues have to read through and evaluate the company's website, promotion tools like brochures in order to determine whether it needs to be changed, improved or not. This task has cost me and my colleagues a week to discuss and come out the plan completely.

Anyway, I did enjoy my first-week internship in Homes Property Management. I hope the plan can be implemented well in the future and I also wish that I can learn as much as possible during this internship period.

More to come next week.
