Schools Marketing vs Communications

Schools Marketing vs Communications

Hey everyone,

My first four weeks of my placement flew by so quickly and soon my supervisor from Schools Marketing would be leaving me for bigger and better things. She was the one who was as excited as I was when I got to start at Scitech and really helped me get settled into the working life there. I was sad to see her go as she taught me so much about that department of the company, which I never knew existed.

Schools Marketing consisted of my supervisor and her assistant (myself) and she ran a unique area which involved the schools of Western Australia and Scitech. Her job was to increase the amount of schools bookings the company got and she had to go round and visit different schools to get them excited about Scitech. She got evaluations and feedback from the teachers on how to improve the booking system and got to work on promotion material which went out to teachers over the school year to educate them on attending Scitech.

This is a very demanding role and I was able to assist her with inputting data from feedback, sifting through students’ comments and voice my opinion on the Guide for Educators and how to make it better for next year. I got to write up briefs for different exhibits at Scitech and make this a document which teachers could go through and understand how it facilitates the schools curriculum.

I also got to go out on a teacher presentation my supervisor did at a primary school and watch her excite the teachers into bringing their students to our organisation. She gave out posters, pens, stress ball brains and other initiatives and then went and spoke to the year three class which have been learning about dinosaurs lately (which Scitech is showcasing at the moment with their latest exhibition Explore-a-saurus). All of this made me think more about what I want to do and if doing Public Relations in the Education sector could be more my niche.

However now that my beloved supervisor has left, I have moved over permanently to the job title of Communications Assistant and working with an incredible team of women who I am very excited about. More on this later..

Until next time,
Brooke
