Hi everyone! I am Sim Chiew Hui, currently positioned as a trainee at Grand Palace Hotel reaching the 11th days for my internship program. During the past, I had always been told that the “real world” in today society is cruel and unpredictable corrupted, whereby the fear had ever made me hardly make the decision and step out the first step to apply an internship placement. Surprisingly, I think I had met all exceptional from “real world” circumstance. One thing that worth to mention about is that every staff here is unexpectedly friendly. My supervisor and seniors always willing to teach whenever I faced any difficulties on my job and give me a chance to try on anything that I had not practice during having my studies in Curtin.
I had assisted my supervisor on organizing events such as the National Day Parade associated with Kindergarten Gospel Chapel Miri. The purpose of organizing such meaningful event was to educate the youth generations to have a patriotism spirit and simultaneously well acknowledge the importance of this commemorative national festival, even though it was just a short period of celebration at the front foyer of Grand Palace Hotel. Whereby, this event could definitely be one of the effective ways to increase awareness through organizing certain meaningful event regularly. In this competitive hotel industry, any single opportunity able to publicize the corporation itself must not overpass.
Aside from that, our PR department would constantly come out with various of promotional strategy, as instance room promotions, distinctive monthly food promotion, and decorate with themes based on different kinds of festival. Hence, our hotel believes by holding this hotel reputation being dull impression for hotel guest as well as the Miri community, especially when this related to the prestige of hotel among hotel industry which required more novelty designated décor to grab attention from customers. Therefore, one of the promotional approaches of our hotel to the community that been implemented constantly was the brochures, flyer and vouchers distribution.
As we know, Bruneian community occupies the biggest probabilities on patronize in Miri hotel industry, Bruneians commonly will pay visits to Miri for short getaway, whilst the peak period mostly situated on the weekends. Unquestionably, predominate in the market always considered as one of the goals that Grand Palace Hotel look forward to achieves and anticipate on obtaining a commendable opportunity to enforce. Thence, as my task was to help out for the preparation of brochures, flyer and vouchers - “The Happening” which includes the events and promotions for the following three months. I had assisted my supervisor to take some photographs of food and beverage conductive to make the brochures more appealing and attractive. After “the happenings” had been printed out, then we went to borders between Miri and Brunei to distribute the brochures, flyer and vouchers in order to pre-empt increasing and gaining more awareness of Bruneian consumer groups amongst other potential competitors.
As for my view of point, Grand Palace Hotel actually has the hidden potential to getting improved with their dignity years by years. They had already retained the current status for nearly 10 years and most likely been beaten by the recent emerging contemporary 4-star hotel such, Imperial Palace Hotel, Parkcity Hotel, Marriott Hotel and others. They need breakthroughs to make more advancement and come out with manifest features that make divergence amongst the other potential competitors.
