The last week

In the last week, my work was mainly stacking up stuff, reorganizing and arranging. I had less work that my previous week because the media relation stuff was back and working! :) I couldn't be happier!

In my last week was mostly light works and mainly back to the usuals ... but there was an event .. its called marketing gathering!

In this event, Global TV basically gives presentation to their client and try to convince them to sponsors the programs! It was much more glam than any other event that was held before, at least in my experience, it was!

There were the introduction of Global TV newest program and other things, it was quiet fun. Before the event I was translating releases most of the time, it was quite a light work.

The best part of all was that this too, was my last day! As usual it was press conference and then the event, and I took care of all the registration and such. And there was a new intern, I was told to teach her what to do, so that she can replace me when I'm back in college, it felt good.

And that was when I asked for my marks, what was dissapointing about it was that my supervisor, doesn't believe in giving high marks. Or in her words, "high marks will give people over confidence, in which you actually have to learn the hard way". Doesn't seem fair at the time, but I guess I have to try to be objective. Thus, I ended my internship.

There may be moments where I felt so tired of doing the internship and sometimes I wanted to quit but for all that I gained an experience of working and it was worth the while :) Thanks to everyone who have helped me and for all the lessons, an experience I won't forget :)

The busiest week of all

So, here again .. after so many weeks that I have spent trying to be so busy for my internship experience, I actually got what I wanted. But as they say, be careful what you wish for! The problem is in the media relation department there were 1 manager and 3 regular staff, which ... unfortunately ... in that weeks, 2 were absent because they were sick and both admitted into hospital! As sad as that was, I had so many jobs to do.

I have to say, it was when I first start experiencing really working! It was just not what any intern usually does around there, apparently ... I actually started working on making my own press releases (not just photocopying and printing them out ... WOW!) and also I had a lot of invitations to make ... and sadly I still had to be the one who faxes them out! May not seem like much a job, but it felt like one, cause I just want my first release to be good ... when its released :)

At that last two weeks, there were 2 major events! And it was so tiring. There was this one competition called "Let's Dance" with Grand Prize to Japan, and I had to again as usual treat the media, be in the registration booth and doing things such as giving out merchandises! The event took out the whole Saturday!

All and all this made it the busiest week, because I had to spend extra time being careful because it was my first feel-like PR job and I have two events to think about. Even as an intern that felt like a HUGE responsibility.

The second event, was the next day, which was the Sunday. It was a launching of Global TV newest TV show, called "Ojek Race". Ojek is a motor cycle, a common lower class transportation in Indonesia. And in this show, the Ojek Driver are given a trek to race in. In that day alone, there were 3 press conference, due to bad time management. The first one was of the Global TV chairman, the second happened because the Minister of Transportation came in late for the press conference and the last was for the reporters and journalists questions and answers, and if they want to try the obstacle trek.

The event again, took all day! By the end of the week, I was more than EXHAUSTED, I was just glad that it was all over and I wished in my heart that those who were admitted came back for work because ALL THE WORK were too tiring to take. But it was an experience that I appreciate, it showed me how public relation is all fun and no pressure. It was like a big sign saying, welcome to the real world :)

The fourth week

My fourth week doing the internship was mainly holiday! It was the last week of December and I could not have been happier! There was not much to do and there were hardly any days that I have to come in the office!

Throughout the week, I did some translation for releases and I was asked to send e-mails to the headquarters in Singapore informing about the status in Jakarta. And I was also asked to call in clients, to set up meetings for my bosses so that they can talk further about partnership, and by clients, I meant media. Media's the client and
media's always the king for a media relation personnel!

In the limited spare time that I had for that week, I spent more time doing the "proofs of advertisement and coverage", so that if anything goes wrong, or if Global TV has not been covered as promised, we can claim for our rights! I realized that there were so many left to do, I don't think that people has been keeping track of these proofs! And there were also some other files that were basically everywhere and I decided to rearrange the files and date them accordingly, thus making them easier to find, so that everyone could benefit from it.

And that was the end of the short fourth week! And I didn't need to come in to the office until 2009 :)

The third week of internship

The third week of my internship was not exactly full, because on that weekend, during the "MTV Staying Alive" concert that I mentioned in my previous blog, it was open air and it poured down on us quite heavily! Thus .... I got sick!

I only got to come in for 3 days in the office, and there was really nothing much to do ... Except for the proofs of advertisement that I have to claim and some faxes to be sent out to the newspapers to inform the advertisements that Global TV was going to be put in their newspaper, they call it "barter". This process is a form of a partnership deal that was build by Global TV and Seputar Indonesia newspaper! This is again, a way of maintaining good media relation and taking as much benefit of the condition and the foundation that was built by both parties!

Other than that, it really was a quiet week! That's all for the third week!!

ps: I know that this is late, but I have only gotten the link now!! sorry!!! :)

My Second Week

My second week in Global TV was a bit different, it was hectic! I was not at all prepared to see what was there. I knew that there was going to be a lot of work but again I did not expect THAT much.

It came as a shocked, it was so different than my first week. First there was a press conference. It was not quite as I expected, maybe it's because that Global TV as its image is more lenient as compared to other company. The press conference involved question and answer session, band performing and free lunch for the journalists and reporters! And this press conference was in regard of an upcoming yearly event, MTV Staying Alive, an event that celebrate the 1st of December as World AIDS day, also a form of community social responsibilty or CSR. It was quite interesting, it was my first time actually experiencing a press conference.

The event took place at the end of the week, which is on the 14th of December, right 2 weeks after i started working. It was hectic and I was responsible for the media stand. Every journalists and reporter who were going to do a coverage on the event would have to register in the media relation booth first and I was in charge of that! Well, I had to also give out merchandise and handband so that the media can go backstage to interview band personels and cover their story.

The event went on for 12 hours, from noon until midnight. I could only stayed for half of it, but my job was actually done right after the media relation booth closed, which was at about 3 pm. I have realized that many of the times, the journalists and reporters chose to come late, it is at their lost as much as ours actually. We need the coverage and they need to write something, thus at that point it came quite as a disappointment. Other than that, it went pretty well.

In between the press conference and the real event, my task was mostly faxing. There were so many invitations to fax!! I guess to get a wide coverage you need a lot of media, it was such a tiring job but it went pretty good. There were also so many press releases to print and photocopy because for every media that come they all need at least one pice of press release. That really taught me the importance of press release!

And that was the exhausting second week ... maybe it does not sound much, but there was actually so much to do!

My First Week

The week earlier, on November 30th, I had an interview with the human resource manager of Global TV, Mr. Febie. He had informed me that I could start my internship right away as I wished on December 1st 2008, for two months up to 1st February 2009.

After the interview, I was assigned in the media relation department. I was informed that I would be dealing a lot with press releases and more of public relation work. I was also told that I would be attending a lot of events in the two months of my internship.

My first week of internship was basically introduction of how everything works in the company. I was mainly doing minor tasks such as faxes and photo copies. This is also because there were a lot of other interns who were finishing their work and they handled all the other tasks.

As a media relation practitioner, obviously the work that we have to do revolves around the media. And one of the task is to make sure that we get enough coverage by the media. I was asked to cut out clippings from newspaper that cover our programs, whether advertisement or a review. I was asked to file them as proof that the newspapers have covered Global TV events and usually there will be a signed deal that a certain newspaper have to advertise Global TV programs, usually the news paper is Seputar Indonesia.

I noticed that the clipping that was done were mainly of a past event of Nickelodeon, Nick's Kids Choice Awards and of an upcoming event MTV Staying Alive.

Global TV is the sole rightful broadcaster for Nickelodeon's and MTV's programs in Indonesia. Thus, Global TV events were usually of Nickelodeon's and MTV based.

Other than that, I was asked to translate a press release for Nick's Kids Choice Awards from Indonesian to English, because the release has to be sent out to the Nickelodeon head qurter in Singapore. This was an advantage especially for me because I speak both language and it was relieving that I finally get some proper work in my first week, because it started to feel dull.

Basically, that is all that I done in my first week working in Global TV.
