Before i entered the not-for-profit sector, i had no idea of the importance and value that public relations has on the organisation. Upon reflection i can see that the PR personnel has a huge role and responsibilities. Especially if they are the only PR person in the organisation!!
Heres a few of my thoughts:
The nature of not-for-profit
organisations highly influences the role of public relations. From my
understanding of PFF, it is evident that the procurement of sponsorships and
maintaining partnerships plays a vital role.
Ultimately the public relations function is essential to
the sustainability of the festival.
Without the continued support of government
partners and corporate sponsorships, the festival would not be able to perform
at the same world-class level, not matter how talented Australian designers
are. Therefore it is the role of public relations, namely the sponsorship
department that determines the financing, calibre and delivery of the festival.
When thinking about weight of this i am sometimes unsure about my ability to handle a role in a not-for-profit. On the other hand majority of jobs seem daunting when you have little experience and straight out of uni.
When considering future career paths I am hoping that with most things, getting thrown into the deep end will allow me to get over initial nerves and allow me to gain a valuable experience and career.
Time will tell!
