Looking Back

This week LunchBox List had it's last LunchBox event of the year.

On the day I helped set up the event, which gave me another opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at the glamours world of event management. Firstly we had to set up the registration table and name badges before we set up the banners and flyers in the event room.

The previous week we had secured advertising and promotional material for the show bags which all had to be packed into the bags on the day. We spent almost two hours packing show bags and ran right till the last moment getting them all together. The room we where packing them in was being set up for another event which added to the pressure of getting them done in time.

It feels like only last week I began my placement. I have learnt so much about working in events and PR and Marketing in general. The girls at LunchBox have all come from different career background, which makes them such a great team to be around.

I recommend that anyone who has an opportunity to attend a LunchBox event take it because there is so much you can gain from the LunchBox experience.

Almost over...

I have almost come to the end of my placement. The past few weeks have been quite exciting as I've gotten to do a few more 'hands on' type jobs. In the past few weeks I have taken part in a brainstorming meeting and generated some new ideas for the business, written a story on networking which will be used on the website, attend meetings with the event venue for the next event (which even turned into some star spotting when Jennifer Hawkins was in the hotel lobby!), and most excitingly on friday I sold two advertising packages for the next event.

While I have officially finished my twenty days there is still the last event on Thursday which will be really exciting as there are some great speakers that I will get the chance to listen to.

I hope you have all enjoyed your placements as much as I have enjoyed mine.

The importance of networking...

It's one of those things that we are told constantly since first year. It's not until you see how beneficial networking can be that you realise home much we really should be getting out there.

Meeting people who have come to a networking event and then gotten a job from it a week later makes you realise just how much it can help in the job hunting process. I've also noticed how the girls at the Lunchbox List office have used networking in their everyday work. When we are trying to get some information to the right people at a company and not sure who is the best person to get in touch with, a lot of the time one of the girls will know someone we can contact to point us in the right direction. I'd encourage you to get out there as much as possible, you never know what doors might open while you are networking!

If you're not sure where to start, LunchBox List Events has an event coming up and are offering half price tickets to students.

Speakers include Nicolle Jenkins (Managing Director of The Hub Marketing Communications), Jo Carson (Head of Brand Marketing at RAC) and Louise Ardagh (Brand Agency).

My First Few Weeks...

Hi everyone,

I'm doing my placement at LunchBox List Events which runs networking and career development days for women in business and women with careers in Perth.

In my first few weeks I have already learnt so much just by being in the office and soaking up everything going on around me. I guess being an intern is a like being a sponge, you tend to just soak up everything thats around you.

So far i've sent my days trying to track down people on the emailing data base whose emails keep bouncing back, finding and adding new women to the database, and calling companies who are already on it and seeing if they are interested in coming along to an event.

The best part so far is getting to help out at events because not only do i get to see all that happens on event day, I also got to hear most of the speakers and hear their career tips and advice!
