We are ready to RAMBLE… in one week!!

Hi all,

i am so excited to announce Perth ramble will be commencing next Sunday!
This means that this will be my last blog.

I have had a wonderful time working for Perth Ramble 2014. There have been many challenges such as: rejections from people to do promotional stalls, rejections from students to even listen to what the event is about, push backs from corporate businesses and a few set backs. However, we have had our successful moments such as: getting people to organise partnership prizes and some great responses on social media gaining a lot of followers and a lot of new likes for our Facebook page.

unfortunately i won't be able to attend the Perth Ramble on Sunday as i will be in Melbourne but i have no doubt it will be an amazing day for everyone, lets hope the weather stays sunny for the event.

I really enjoyed PR internship i really learnt a lot about social media and dealing with the public in a lot of different ways. I enjoyed working with the other intern Rhian, we worked together nicely and feel i have gained a friend.

Future things that i would have liked to see is more people getting involved in charities any way that they can, it is so important to contribute what we can to help charities. Working for one has really opened my eyes and now i see things differently.

In conclusion i feel very privileged that i had the opportunity to be involved in Perth Ramble 2014, i hope to help where i can next year as well!

Thank you all for taking the time to read my  blogs, i wish you all the best with your future studies.

Nearly ramble time- Meetings and updates

October is just around the corner, therefore this means that Perth ramble is creeping in very soon!
Perth ramble are really trying hard to get more people to sign up for the ramble, this is not as easy as we thought it was going to be. Many people at Curtin have been ignoring our constant information about the event and this is very disheartening. On Monday the 22nd, myself and Rhian had a meeting with the marketing manager, she explained what is needing to be done, updates on what we have achieved and how well we are doing on reaching the over all goal.   Our Facebook page is doing very well, we have received over 100 new likes in a short space of one week, we have had a few new entries and our Instagram page has received a few new followers. Anthea (marketing manager) asked if we could come in and do some corporate calls, to try and gain some companies to enter the ramble. I was more than happy to do this! Therefore, today I went in at 9am and started calling places like delloite , BHP, RAC etc. Most people were very friendly and suggested for me to send them an email with more information. Others were very blunt and didn’t want to know anything about the charity. I’m not sure if anyone of the places that I rang are going to make a team and join the event however, I do know that all emails have been sent out. Fingers crossed that we get a few new corporate entries!

Next Thursday I am going to go in and spend the afternoon with Anthea going through some more stuff on what needs to be done, I’m not 100% on what exactly ill be doing but I’m happy to help any way that I can. So far it has been a positive learning experience, helping this event be bigger and better. It has its challengers however, I think with anything that is important it will always have its ups and downs and it’s your mind set that is the most important thing and your passion. I’m looking forward to next week, to learn new things and hopefully find out if any organizations have signed up for this years ramble.

If you have Instagram please feel free to follow the perth ramble- @perthramble the more followers the better.

Thank you!

Students just don't have time… even for charity?

Today I met with Rhian who is doing the Perth Ramble with me. We met at Curtin to discuss how we are going to get more students involved in the Perth ramble, we also needed to give the Perth Ramble an update about our progress.

We decided to put flyers around campus and talk to students one on one. As we went around campus to speak with students we found to receive the same reaction from students. About 99% of the time the students would look at us as if to say “why are you interrupting my coffee” or gives their friends a little look of “im really not interested”.

It is sad to think our generation has no time to even listen to someone talk for literally 1 minute. Furthermore, its not just the fact that it is rude to the people speaking but it is also disrespectful to the charity who are trying to fundraise money for Telethon.

On the brighter side we did get a few peoples emails and we also met a man called Leo who kindly let us put flyers on his stall, he reassured us and said that we are doing a very good job.

We will be going to our own lectures to talk about the Perth Ramble and to see who would be interested to sign up there. After 2 hours of talking to students we decided to write our update report so that our marketing supervisor Anthea can present it to the committee in tomorrows meeting.

Lastly we have started an Instagram account for the Perth ramble “perthramble” for people to follow and updated the Facebook page where we are running a competition for people to enter and win 3 nights accommodation to Margaret River.

Hopefully we will get better success with students next time, fingers crossed!

Ready Set…. RAMBLE!

I am very excited to be starting at my internship with a non for profit organisation called the 'Rotary club' who every year do a fundraiser called 'Ramble'. Ramble is a charity that is run every year in October, with a mix of the amazing race and treasure hunt, teams are formed and the aim of the game is to answer questions while trying to find clues around Perth CBD. The fundraiser goes to telethon and other very meaningful charities.

Yesterday i Had the pleasure of meeting some of the people from the Ramble organisation. Myself and Rhian who is also doing the internship with me, got to sit and discuses how we were going make ramble more appealing to students at Curtin University and the general public. It was such a great feeling as i felt like i was part of the team, throwing ideas and answering questions, it made me have a fresh air of motivation to help this organisation really shine to its full potential.

The meeting duration went for 1 and a half hours, within that time Rhian and I gathered some great ideas and suggestions to start working on. We will be meeting tomorrow (30th August) to come up with a timeline and start planing how and what we are going to do to create awareness around Curtin students.

Next week we will be going to another meeting where we will be meeting other people that are also involved with Ramble. We will also be presenting what we have discussed and what moves we are going to do for the Ramble.

Stay tuned, very exciting stuff are coming up!
