The momentum continues....

Hi guys,

the last few weeks have only continued to become busier at Momentum Forum events, since I last posted there has been The Pink Ribbon Ball which was fantastic, we attended The Conscious Living Expo a few weeks ago to promote The Perth Pet Expo, and finally today there was The Melbourne Cup Luncheon in support of Canteen.

So many exciting things going on while trying to get organised for The Perth Pet Expo. I am used to being busy, but this has taken some getting used to. Like people have been telling me, this is the real world!

I'd have to say that the most enjoyable part of the last few weeks is watching PPE grow from being this idea in the beginning to becoming this massive event of the year. We have been able to secure publicity through Today Tonight, our ambassador will be talking about  PPE on both Mix 94.5 and 96.FM and we are still in talks with many more exhibitors and sponsors coming on board.

Here is the link to The West Australian article

It's so interesting to watch one PR tactic such as an article in The West Australian create so many more opportunities to for more publicity. I am fortunate enough to be continuing my internship until December which I am happy about as I get to see this project from start to finish.

Was nice talking to you,

Kieran

Pink Ribbon Ball

Hey guys,

It's been pretty crazy at the moment with uni, as I am sure you can all agree. Things at Momentum have been crazy too.

Last night we had the Pink Ribbon Ball, which raises awareness and funds in support of breast cancer. Although I am focusing on Perth Pet Expo, I helped out with the massive event last night.

The ball was held at the Hyatt and my main responsibilities were to set up the raffle boxes for the tables, help with the door prize entries, be a spotter for the live auction, and get the model ready who was wearing a Betty Tran dress which was one of the auction prizes, and a few more responsibilities as the night progressed.

It was a fantastic night and with an event such as this and the amount of people attending, there are always issues that arise that needed to be sorted,  these however could always be resolved.  You don't realise how much goes into an event of this size until your working at it, so I am really loving the fact I can witness it from the creation to it's completion and It really is a rewarding experience to see the event at its final stage.  The main thing i learned from last night however  is that it is  all in the details!

I started my internship after the Pink Ribbon Ball organisation had started, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing The Perth Pet Expo from start to it's finish and seeing the hard work pay off.

In the end no matter how chaotic it all gets, the experience I am gaining is all worth it!

Talk soon,

Kieran

All Things Pets

Its been a buys few weeks since I have started working on the Perth Pet Expo 2014, one of Momentum Forum Events many projects under way.

One of the first days of working on the PPE I was given a load of information to do, Kasia Mcnaught, the Project Manager, was jetting off to New York for Fashion Week and so we had to cram everything I needed in one phone call. Lucky there was always Facebook, email, and Barbara to communicate with when I had a million questions.

Due to this being the first Perth Pet Expo we need a lot of sponsors and exhibitors.  One of my main roles is to communicate with potential exhibitors and sponsors and basically send them our media kit and explain the benefits of coming to this expo and the opportunities it posses for their business with exposure, there’s a lot of phone calls and emails and questions and as much as I HATE talking on the phone (I’m a Millennial), It’s a part of the job and I’m dealing with it.

Another fun little part of being the PR intern is updating the social media, everyone loves pet videos and photos so posting funny and cute things to bring more awareness and likes to our expo is always an easy perk of the job.

It’s a slow process but at the moment it’s starting to really pick up and with the expo now partnering with The West Australian, the ‘momentum’ will only start to build and the event is going to be amazing.

Building the Momentum

Hey Guys,

Finally getting around to posting my first post from my internship and what a road it has been.
During the mid-semester break I was sure that the issue of finding a PR placement was going to be daunting.  With just having finished Semester One and just under two weeks before flying out to Paris this was not the stress I needed.

I applied for many organisations throughout Perth that interested me and received barely any responses, I was running out of ideas.  My friend suggested I apply for Momentum Forum Events, where he was currently completing his internship.  I applied one day and within a few hours had been asked to come down for an interview.

My interview with Barbara McNaught, CEO of Momentum Forum Events, went well and I finally scored an internship. Momentum Forum Events is an organisation that focuses on networking and marketing with a strong charity component.  Some signature events that they have created are the International Women's Day, Melbourne Cup Luncheon, JDL Men In Black Ball (MIB) in support of Mens Mental Health, and The Annual Pink Ribbon Gala in support of Breast Cancer. These events raise awareness and funds for the selected charities which is what drew me to the position.

My first few days were exciting where I spent time with Barbara one on one working with her for the Pink Ribbon Ball.  We spent time looking at the highlights of Men in Black Ball and uploading it to the YouTube and Facebook page for Barbara's talk show Hello Darlink. Check out what we uploaded and the type of event Momentum Events organise. MIB 2014 Highlights

One exciting moment on my first day was to be included on a meeting with The West Australian about selling tables on Click2Bid which gives readers a chance to bid on tables at almost half the price. The meeting also included looking at the ad space we wanted to choose in the newspaper to capture the most amount of publicity and in turn sell tickets and tables.  Having the perceived idea that internships included a lot of coffee runs, and instead gotten straight into the work was definitely a positive.

I am so excited to be working on a new project which is the Perth Pet Expo, helping organise from scratch with a team is going to be so rewarding and I know this is where I will gain a lot of my experience,  there is so much to do before the event so I will keep my blog updated with all the exciting stuff to come.
