Starting something new is never easy, stepping out of your
comfort zone is a challenge, but I challenge that I am happy to take on.
Walking in on day one I had no idea what to expect, would I
just be making coffees for everyone? Going to buy lunches? Cleaning the dishes?
Will they throw me right in the deep end and not explain anything properly and
expect me to know what I am doing?
Well, I am happy to say that none of the above
happened. I walked in and was introduced
to everyone and I felt very welcomed. I didn’t make any coffees (except for
myself)
I got given a task to create a database for a contact list
where I had to call up people and get contact information. It seems like a
pretty simple task, but talking on the phone can be a bit daunting, especially
with everyone in the office in ear shot of you nervously mumbling when someone
asks you a question you have no idea about but you try and answer in the best
way possible.
The day flew by and before I knew it it was home time, I had
survived. I really enjoyed my day and was actually excited to go back the next
day!
Tip of the day: If you are in a position where you need to
find contact details – be proactive – don’t be afraid to call up and ask
someone for their number. It can be daunting, but after a while you get used to
it and you get through your task a lot faster.
