Hi Bloggers,
Throughout my study of Public Relations communication has been emphasised as essentially PR practitioners are communicators. Units have taught me multiple ways in which corporates can communicate and can communicate effectively.
Whist interning with Volleyball Western Australia I have witnessed two examples of good communications and ineffective communication.
Volleyball Australia held a phone conference involving all volleyball associations from around Australia including Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. There were meant to be two parts to this conference, the first being feedback from the associations about the alterations made by Volleyball Australia this year in regard to the State Open event. This consumed most of the conference as the second part wasn’t addressed. Not to mention when talking with Julian (the new participations and development coordinator) and Irene, they expressed they received no new information from the conference and were dissatisfied by the amount of time taken out of their day, as the conference went for two hours. Public Relations is all about communicating effectively and ensuring you produce messages that your audience can consume and translate. I feel as though this was not achieved by Volleyball Australia, especially due to their time management as even though out the conference people were dropping off the line.
Volleyball Western Australia have conveyed effective and good internal employee relations throughout my internship. I have witnessed the incorporation and departure of participation and development coordinators to receptionists. At this weeks meeting welcomes were made and goodbyes were said, as well as the organisation of a going away dinner for those who are leaving the organisation. Also this week two birthdays occurred in the office, therefore cards were signed and given, managing director Robyn Kuhl brought in a cake as well. Through frequent meetings, communication between the different departments of the organisation is kept at a constant and people feel as though they are being heard. Not to mention the added touches of birthday celebrations and recognition of those who worked for the organisation, create good rapport and working environment.
These two examples have convoyed the effectiveness of communication and the right communication channels, it is good to be supporting the theory I have learnt with the practice.
