Review, Edit and Review.

How time goes so fast! I am in my third week at WACOSS and enjoying every moment.

This week has been all about Reviewing, Editing and Reviewing. My job this week is to assist with the Membership Review.  As apart of this review the communications team needed to come up with a survey to send out to WACOSS members. This task allowed the communications team to pinpoint areas that WACOSS felt they needed to improve on.

The Membership Survey was being sent out to over 300 members. The three main areas in which WACOSS wanted gain feedback from included keeping our members informed, how well our members support the WACOSS Social Policy agenda and the availability of access to training and other services WACOSS can provide.

The communications team had to come up with questions to identify the above areas and make sure that the questions we asked gave us valuable feedback that we could use. This would help WACOSS develop strategies and solutions to address member satisfaction.

Completing this task taught me the importance of language and writing. It was important that we used WACOSS terminology so members could clearly understand what was being asked.  There is a ‘fine art’ as my colegeu at WACOSS called to using WACOSS language to speak to our members in anything that is produced in the marketing and communications department.

The survey took numerous edits, reviewing sessions, meetings and a lot of print outs.  But finally , we were able to send out the survey earlier this week. Responses are still coming through and results are not clear yet. I ma excited to see what comes out of this survey and how well members think WACOSS is performing. This tactic is an important part in how WACOSS evaluates there own performance and how they can improves as a member organisation.

Only 1 more week to go at WACOSS and I am going to miss this place and the lovely people I have been working with.

Until next time…

Working towards 100% satisfaction

Last week i designed a feedback form to be distributed to FAWWA's members , the idea behind this was to find out what they most enjoy about being a member and which benefits are most important to them. This information can then be used to improve the membership and make it more appealing to the public.

The membership fees are one of FAWWA's biggest revenue sources and so it is important to try and maintain the current membership numbers, attract more new members and more than anything make sure the members are happy with their relationship with FAWWA.

This week i recieved back many filled out feedback forms. I began to collate the data and responses in excel, even though this is a PR internship i found that my marketing research experience and skills came in incredibly handy whilst doing this.

I have found in other occasions that not only my PR skills but my marketing skills also have been greatly put into practice during my internship, which i am very happy about. I feel that sometimes the line between PR and Marketing tasks can blur and it is sometimes hard to distinguish which category a skill or task would fall under.

In my opinion putting into action plans that may help to increase membership can be looked at as marketing, because it is involved in raising profit or revenue. However if these plans involved creating better communication between the organisation and it's members , then that is probably classed as PR. Are there any marketing+PR majors that agree/disagree?

Anyway, once all the data is collected i plan to create a small report to give to FAWWA's president. From this report i hope to help her decide on how to improve areas that the members aren't 100% happy with. Which should mean some more positive changes to be put in place by the other interns and I.
