Frenzied friday deadlines



The third week of my internship was spent working on a submission for an Indigenous award. It was a last minute decision which left us with seven days to produce the document. There was an original meeting to discuss, then another to brain storm the layout and main points where I was allocated my specific parts.

Before I could start writing my part I spent hours researching, looking through photos, reports and published documents to find what I was looking for. The submission had a 2000 words limit which meant everything I wrote had to been precise and directly linked to the awards criteria in order to get the most out of the submission. 

Once a draft was produce it then meant I had to email each relevant communications adviser to confirm the facts and statistics I had used were correct. This was crucial to avoid mistakes that would increase cost and production time if not picked up early on. This again meant more time spent extracting the correct information from several documents to get what I needed. 

 The company has very particular requirements for tone of voice and brand guidelines to ensure a high standard and consistency through all publications. This meant I had to be particular and concentrate on how I worded each part I wrote. I’m not yet confident in all aspects of the tone of voice required but everyone here is happy to help. Everyone reviews everyone’s work to again ensure consistency and sometimes simply to provide a second opinion or a fresh pair of eyes.

 The 5pm WST Friday deadline was tight but we made it in time and submitted the award. The winners are not announced until September so I will have to look out to see if the submission is successful. I feel we are in for a chance because the end result (which I will include in my appendix) looks great.
