Blog One - Day 8 - CME

Hi everyone!

SO, over the past two weeks, the Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) have been very welcoming and supportive of my position and involved me in many aspects of the business. I have been involved in assisting the Executive Officer of Media and Public Affairs in all her day to day duties as well as assisting the Event and Marketing Coordinator when there is time.

Apart from preparing speech notes, undertaking industry specific research on issues and relevant material, I have attended various meetings and briefings over the past 8 days. Among these include a media meeting with the ABC radio producer to assess the best way to leverage opportunities for the ABC and CME. I have written and provided briefing notes for the key spokepeople before print and broadcast media interviews on topical industry issues.

I was able to attend and note take at almost all media interviews the CEO has had with The West Australian, ABC and WA Business News. Seeing these make print or radio was very exciting. I have attended a CHOGM information session at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Center and I have also attended the internal CME SkillsWest Expo briefing. For me, the highlight so far was attending and assisting at the quarterly members only, Public Affairs Round table event. Delegates from Chevron, Woodside, FMG, Oakagee Port and Rail (to name a few) joined the roundtable event to hear Tenille Bentley, Founder of Socialite Media present on social media and resources. This provided a forum for discussion on the challenges associated with the industry and managing company involvement in social media.

The Executive Officer for Media and Public Affairs has been fantastic in letting me observe her day to day activities and the way she approaches tasks and issues. By assisting me to have a comprehensive understanding of her role has been very beneficial. The Mining and Resources industry is very dense and technical so the opportunity to do my own research and learning has been fantastic in helping me grasp technical concepts and issues.

So that's a brief overview of what I'm doing, more blog posts to come this week. Stay tuned to hear about the industry breakfast I'm attending on Tuesday and other exciting happenings!
