The BEST day!

Now that I am approaching the end of my internship, I thought I would share my most enjoyable experience at PMH Foundation. Funnily enough looking back at all the days spent at my internship my first day was by far my favorite. I remember feeling so scared, nervous and exited all at the same time!

It just so happened that I would be starting on the same day as the Stitches Bear Fair (basically a mini Royal Show). This was the biggest event held on the grounds of PMH hospital and took months and months of organization and coordination by Sandra, my placement mentor and boss.

I still remember walking into the office and not knowing what to expect or what to do or who to ask or where to even stand (hahah). Everyone was busy doing their own thing or helping with the preparations for the Bear Fair. I ended up building up my courage and introducing myself to one of the ladies in the office.  I told her my name and that I was the new marketing and communications intern. She smiled warmly at me and walked me over to the hospital to meet up with Sandra, who would be in charge of me during the internship.

I remember the first thing Sandra said to me… “Hi Nonny, nice to see you. Now I need four bags of ice ASAP. This is some money and please bring back the receipt”. Because I was soooo nervous I took this task very seriously. I didn’t want to stuff up anything!

As the day progressed I was asked to run around and do little jobs hear and there, then I was given the job to walk around and ensure everything was going to plan. I got to eat fairy floss, take pictures with Stitches the bear and talk to little kids all day. Basically it was all so much fun! And though running and planning an event is stressful I also noticed that by having a plan and good preparation ensured everything went smoothly.

(Me with Vanessa, one of the regular PMH Foundation volunteers)

Sandra briefed all PMH foundation staff as well as the volunteers before the Bear Fair started and made sure everyone knew what they were doing. Watching her run this event made me relies that it isn’t that daunting at all! I can’t wait to run my own events someday, and hopefully have my own interns runnning around helping me! J haha

I hope you have all enjoyed your internships and had great experiences! i can't wait to upload my last post about my last day and all the things I have learnt. Until then....
