Well that went quickly!
My placement at Hockey WA came and went quickly, but I can safely say I am much better for the experience.
Over the journey I was faced with challenging situations, got a tad starstruck meeting a couple international hockey players, and made some great contacts in the PR Industry.
One of the most exciting things for me personally was being able to put skills I have learnt in my degree into practise. I think it's one thing to write up a media release for an assignment, but its a completely different ball game when you are doing a media release for an organisation. As someone that used to be a little careless with spelling mistakes and grammar, it called for extra attention to detail, and a lot of proofreading.
I also enjoyed helping out at the International Super Series Hockey 9's. In particular, working under seasoned professionals who had a lot of experience in the PR field was very valuable for me.
I'd like to say a huge thank you to the staff at Hockey WA for allowing me to complete my internship, in particular Mitchell Eastman, the communications and events coordinator at Hockey WA. From the first day i walked in the door I felt very welcome, and any unease or nervousness I had quickly disappeared.
To anyone reading this blog that hasn't yet undertaken their internship, if I could give a few words of advice it would be to try and learn as much as possible and to not be afraid of asking questions. This internship gave me valuable experience and exciting challenges and I look forward to the next step in my PR career!
