Chilly perks of the job

Being in an agency does have its ups and downs. I would say I am the type that would not favour sitting in the office for long hours as I am more of a hands-on individual. Being here at CROWD does allow me to do both work and play, and I truly enjoyed that. I feel blessed knowing that my colleagues are always up for some adventure and we would always make the best out of the littlest time we got off.

I believe in the phrase - "Work hard, play harder"

I was glad I got the chance to apply that here by working at CROWD. Some days when we go out for meetings, we would have small conversations about basically anything under the Sun. The best is when we can enjoy event perks!

One of my most memorable one was the official launch of 2 Degree Ice Art 2013/2014 that I assisted one of my colleague, Cassaundra on. I remembered almost the entire office having a ball of a time going in the -15 degrees space built just for these Harbin ice sculptors to showcase their famous ice sculptures! Some of the featured ones were Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and even some other famous landmarks!

Above is a photo of me and my colleagues including one of the online magazine's journalist!

And here's the famous Eiffel tower in ice form! And completely touchable!

There was even an ice bar where guests could enjoy beers from an ice glass! Truly an amazing experience (:

I came back from the event feeling very thankful that I was blessed with friendly colleagues that I could both enjoy my work with and also have fun during events with!

This journey have been nothing but enriching to me and I cant wait to share more!

Till the next time,
Faizah.

BYE BYE MUSE

Unfortunately, my internship at Muse Bureau is drawing to a close. I have only three weeks remaining and to be honest I'm frightened to leave!

My internship at Muse has been amazing! I have met a variety of new faces including: talented artists, entrepreneurs and journalists. I am also happy to announce that my confidence has boosted! ...I would hope so, considering I have been in my placement for over 6 weeks now.

The last  campaign I have been assigned to is the 10 Year anniversary of Perth hair and beauty salon, Ebony and Ivory. I am loving working in the beauty industry as it has helped me expand my knowledge of media outlets.

The founder of Ebony and Ivory, Joan DellaValle has quite an incredible story, she moved to Perth from Zambia at the age of 23, fell in love with a Perth boy, got married, studied Management and Marketing at ECU and founded the salon in 2003. I am inspired by her story of hard work and determination, making it easier for me to pitch to media outlets. After I complete the publicity report for the client I will be on my way out into the world of professional public relations...

Working with Muse Bureau has been an absolute delight. The staff are amazing and the range of clients make it the perfect place to gain experience in the public relations industry.

Its time to say goodbye now!

Adios.

Work heats up with season shift!

As spring and summer approaches, the people of Perth are losing layers and day by day smiling brighter about the good riddance that is winter! There is a supposed excitement about the town that comes from knowing the seasons are to change and we are soon to be in the midst of care-free summer frivolity. For anyone that has ever worked on a new season fashion launch will know that this easy optimistic serenity I speak of does not exist, but excitement does!

The past few weeks have been the best (and steepest) learning cures I have ever experienced! With staff shortages and shuffles for a variety of reasons I really got to sink my teeth into some fantastic PR and Marketing projects leading into the Spring/Summer Fashion season for Westfield Carousel!

To get our centre, retailers, customers and staff #SSReady (spring Summer Ready), the summer fashion program consists of several events, new promotional installations, fresh collateral, new competitions and (one of the most important aspects this season ;) social media engagement. To utilize the marketing efforts of our social media sites best  the tagline for the campaign is ‘#SSReady’ next time you’re googling away have a search; you might just find some tips!

One of the big learning’s I have attained of the past few weeks (as I am sure many of my colleagues would be finding also),is the importance of presenting with clarity a consistent  message to across all promotional channels. With so many competitions on, new store openings, events needed attending prioritizing web space, mall promotional activations and direct marketing is a challenge constantly grappled with! We don’t want to bombard customers, but we want to create the most awareness as possible for these campaigns and deliver the best possible results for our retailers!

On particular event that was successful for our retailers and customers was our very first Westfield Carousel VIP day! The day treated 300 of our lucky customers to special offers and deals, lolly buffet, mocktails, goody bags, free style advice, make-up touch ups, express hand massages, hair curling, eye brow waxing, entertainment and more! The day was so much fun and really fostered my love for event planning and activation.

First Quarter: Off to a flyer

Hey Bloggers,

On the 14th of August, I began my internship at the SportXchange project.

SportXchange was set up by the local government and the West Australian Sporting Federation. Some of the aims include; helping out all the other sporting bodies in WA with gaining publicity, sponsorship, and providing them with volunteers etc. Our organisation aims to help other sporting bodies as Netball Wa, Football West, Basketballs WA, WACA etc.

So far, I have mainly been tasked at looking at their content analysis.
This includes when I get into the office on a Wednesday or Thursday morning, I open all the emails we have received, and put up relevant stories on the website or on social media.  Most of the posts I put up on twitter for example, are posts aiming to help out other sporting bodies, including using social media in a business, and general tips, at getting more publicity.
Some of the tweets I posted

I am mainly looking forward to also contributing to the WASF Sports Star of the Year. Every year, one West Australian sportsman/sportswomen is chosen as the best in the state.  I am looking forward to using my journalism and public relations skills, to work on this event.

The main lessons I have learned so far is speed and accuracy. As out website gets over 40 views a day, and we have over 170 twitter followers, it is important all the posts we send out are accurate and relevant.

I have also started doing some blog posts. Today I did a blog on Twitter. As some of the sporting bodies have never used twitter and  are not familiar with it, i wrote a blog on how it works e.g what a hashtag is etc. This may sound kind of basic to us, but to those who struggle with technology and don't understand how it can be helpful, its all new to them. They are yet to be posted, but we have already been told they will be helpful by Motorcycling WA.

I am looking forward to networking with others in the future, and the launch of the Sports Star of the Year award.

Cheers,

Francis Curro
