Hy fellow interns..!!!been a while since my last post :D well i have been a little busy organising events which i will blog about in my next 2 posts for now i will be talking about the power of social media on public relations. Ever wondered how PR has evolved from the olden days till now?. How this new media has affected its growth?. Is this the new PR? Is it all that easy to reach thousands of millions of people with just a single click. Well yes it is and yes Reputation Mercatus has recognised this and took full advantage of it, after-all its free..!!! :-)
A few weeks back i was assigned to take over one of our clients' twitter and facebook pages. In whatever we do, we always make sure we use this two social networks to connect with our audience, this has proven to be very beneficial in the past few weeks since i started working. This got me thinking on how social networks are and can be used to create a positive image about an organisation or company in today's world.
Nowadays, we truly do live in a global village where one thing happens in another continent but you still get to hear or read about it from another, information is easily accessible and spreads easily. This change also affected Public Relations, as it also changed when the Internet came into play. Now, with more and more people getting online, it is of great importance for an organisation to have it's own online presence.

If you are a fan of racing you might want to check out Red Bull Rookies facebook page and also follow Redbullrookies on twitter, i did mention these are my babies right :-).
1. As already mentioned we could reach a large audience at one go...
2. Easy communication with our audience, we can easily get feedback from them on issues affecting our clients. That is questions, queries, comments and suggestions.- Last month we had to organise a launch of the Red Bull Rookies, after sending out media invites we simply updated our facebook and twitter pages, this helped us reach not only the media (who also happen to be in these social networks) but also our fans.
- After every event we post pictures and the press release on our facebook and twitter pages for our target audience to see.
- Just before the Chinese new year, we used our social networking pages to wish the media and our fans a very happy lunar new year this just goes to show how social networks work in so many levels.
- Social media gives PR practitioners a chance to interact directly with our audience, we are the journalists, this the one place where we can present our story our way an not as seen through the eyes of a practicing journalist.
