PR AND SOCIAL MEDIA.. Facebook..Twitter and the art of blogging..!!

Hy fellow interns..!!!been a while since my last post :D well i have been a little busy organising events which i will blog about in my next 2 posts for now i will be talking about the power of social media on public relations. Ever wondered how PR has evolved from the olden days till now?. How this new media has affected its growth?. Is this the new PR? Is it all that easy to reach thousands of millions of people with just a single click. Well yes it is and yes Reputation Mercatus has recognised this and took full advantage of it, after-all its free..!!! :-)

A few weeks back i was assigned to take over one of our clients' twitter and facebook pages. In whatever we do, we always make sure we use this two social networks to connect with our audience, this has proven to be very beneficial in the past few weeks since i started working. This got me thinking on how social networks are and can be used to create a positive image about an organisation or company in today's world.

Nowadays, we truly do live in a global village where one thing happens in another continent but you still get to hear or read about it from another, information is easily accessible and spreads easily. This change also affected Public Relations, as it also changed when the Internet came into play. Now, with more and more people getting online, it is of great importance for an organisation to have it's own online presence.

Here are some of the benefits that i picked up from the use of social networking in PR when i was administrating these two social networks;

1. As already mentioned we could reach a large audience at one go...
  • Last month we had to organise a launch of the Red Bull Rookies, after sending out media invites we simply updated our facebook and twitter pages, this helped us reach not only the media (who also happen to be in these social networks) but also our fans.
  • After every event we post pictures and the press release on our facebook and twitter pages for our target audience to see.
  • Just before the Chinese new year, we used our social networking pages to wish the media and our fans a very happy lunar new year this just goes to show how social networks work in so many levels.
2. Easy communication with our audience, we can easily get feedback from them on issues affecting our clients. That is questions, queries, comments and suggestions.

  • Social media gives PR practitioners a chance to interact directly with our audience, we are the journalists, this the one place where we can present our story our way an not as seen through the eyes of a practicing journalist.

If you are a fan of racing you might want to check out Red Bull Rookies facebook page and also follow Redbullrookies on twitter, i did mention these are my babies right :-).

Good day mates and all the best in your respective work places..!!!

REPUTATION MERCATUS..!!!

Dumelang, apa khabar , ni hau ma :-) hi mates

My name is Maungo i am currently working at Reputation Mercatus, It is a PR agency under an umbrella organisation called "Brand Mercatus" which basically deals with publishing, organising events and media. The agency won “Best Promotional Activity Campaign of the Year for their Red Bull Rookies Campaign” at the Malaysia PR Awards 2009 (MPRA2009), so you can imagine how i felt on my first day...nervous wreck!!!but i must say my colleagues turned out to be very friendly, the working environment is fun and very relaxed leaving me at ease to learn and ask questions where i do not understand.

On my first day i was shown around the office and my boss explained the basics of what i am expected to do on a daily basis. My duties include media monitoring for two of our clients English Language centers and Red Bull, to most interns this task is a tedious one but luckily for me our office has a media monitoring company which does the monitoring for us (since i am part of the family now) and all i have to do is proof read the material they send before sending it to the client. i also have to go through the newspapers just to make sure the media monitoring company did not leave out any important news on any of our clients. Also had a chance to deal with the media, making media calls and sending out invites and press releases..and my my dealing with media is not as easy as i had thought, it takes determination and a lot of patience. Good thing i am one very patient person :-)

Everyday is a new experience, i learn something new and i love my job even more..xx
will keep guys updated on what we get up to at Reputation..!!!
