hi guys
hope that u had a merry xmas. i got the chance to be involved in an event that was most fulfilling
. picture this: elated young faces, Christmas carols all around, fun and games, surprise presents and not forgetting our very own Santa. this was the atmosphere at Rumah Hope Sanctuary on Christmas eve courtesy of Limkokwing staff and students.
i was excited about being apart of this event for two main reasons. 1. is that i love children and giving back to them and 2. it gave me an opportunity to discover what goes on in planning an event.
As a home for abused, neglected and ubnderpriveledged children, the university has made visits before as part of its CSR approach but it was the first time that a christmas eve party had ever been made. you can imagine my excitement when i found out about the event and had a chance to plan what the agenda for the day was, what gifts we should buy the children and definately the most important aspect of all, the objective.
The objective for the event was to bring joy and the christmas spirit to these kids. we had nothing financial to gain for this and the return came from seeing the joy and appreciation in those childrens faces. the day involved participation from staff and some of our international students.
The day started off with the children getting to know thier visitors and caretakers for the day and one could tell from their joyous welcome that it was going to be a day in high spirits. i was then wowed by their beautiful voices as they sang Christmas carols one after the other. it was easy to see that they would be the future musicians of the world.
For the entertainment, we provided them with games such as musical chairs, football, christmas card making which exhibited thier skills, tug of war and a jumping castle which proved to be the favoourite as most of them could not keep away from it..it was also interesting to see that the staff got involved too. It really showed that you are only as old as you think you are.lol
The highlight of the day was having Santa clause walk in on the children to surprise them and hand them christmas presents. The children got a chance to take a picture with Santa and this elated them. i truely feel that you had to be there to witness what a good deed could do to a childs life and i feel that for Limkokwing to do that, they showed that it is not all about academics and that as an organisation you should be recognized for doing good in the society.
CSR is very important and the more good an organisation does, the more it will build a respectable and credible reputation. it does not matter whether the company is a business or an NGO, doing good and giving back really comes a long way. As PR student my main interest is in doing events and especially those that involve charity so i felt like i was in my element.
I have no doubt in my mind that Pr can do a world of good for an organisation when it comes to corporate social responsibility and i would encourage my organisation to make these kinds of events habitual becuase not only did they put smiles on the faces of these children but seeing these smiles was gratitude enough..this was definately my best christmas as well..
I hope u all a happy new year:) and hope i have something even more interesting to share in 09. 6 more weeks of internship to go and so far so good
