Hello to all of you.
Several weeks have passes and I think I am really enjoying myself working in the Corporate Communication Department at my office. So now I want to share one more interesting task that I did. It was leading a tour at Sri Pentas. So as a television station, we receive application mostly from schools and universities who would want to visit us at Sri Pentas. Usually, these schools or universities will send a fax to TV9 to apply or to make an appointment with our PR officer to make a visit. Once their application is approved by the Corporate Communications Department, they will be given a date and time when they can visit our television station.
So, I get my first visit from primary students that came from Malacca. Before I lead the tour, I was brief by my boss on how to assist a visit and what you should and should not do while leading a tour. So I am quite ready and clear of how to actually conduct a tour. First of all, I need to brief the visitors about Media Prima and TV9. So I would have to highlight what is Media Prima, which station is under Media Prima and several other things about Media Prima. I also promote TV9 shows and tell the visitors to watch our shows. As a PR person in a TV station, it is part of our role to make our audience to watch our shows.
Until now, I have leaded a few visits. I can relate this task with Public Relations when we communicate and conduct the visitors from outside that came to visit our place. We have to treat them nicely and try to answer their questions if they have anything to ask. Things get a little bit tougher when I get these students that came from universities and they actually have a club named ‘Bulletin’ where the students will act as if they were reporters. So the kids that came from the primary schools will most likely ask the normal questions such as; when will their favorite cartoon shows will be aired, will there be a repeat for the shows and several other questions. So I need to talk to them and answer them fairly so that they felt comfortable conversing with me. I enjoyed spending time with all the school children because I love kids.
Thus, the way I handled the tour should be different and suitable for the group that came for the visit. When I get the university students, they are more exited and inspired to visit each studios and radio stations located in Sri Pentas. They will bring their cameras and capture as many pictures’ as they want. The universities students will ask questions such as how do TV9 market itself and our strategy to compete with other television stations’. Their questions’ is more serious and we need to be sure about our answers’ as our answers’ will appear in their report. So, preparation and a good communication skill will surely help if you were about to perform a task such as leading a tour.
I will end my posting here. Will write more soon;)
Regards.
Nurhiza Hidayu(LUCT).
