Last i wrote i gave a brief description of where i worked and the major activity going on at the time was the whole saga of the communication Act. Now to the fun part. KFCB does not censor movies in the films. Unlike in Malaysia where sex scenes are edited in Kenya they simply rate the movie. an over 10 movie in hollywood may not necessarily be so in Kenya thus the need to re-rate all movies before they are released in the cinemas.
This meant that i get to watch movies before everyone else. A s fun as it sounds it actually got exhausting and boring considering that i had to watch bollywood movies as well (No offense to Bollywood lovers), i actually ended up liking a few and learning alot about them. Anyway so basically the cinema's would call the office to book for a rating, then my work would be to select a few board members and inform them prior to the screening, make sure they turn up because they do get allowances for rating these films. (I know, how unfair getting paid to watch a movie!!).
There are some forms they have to fill and after the screening based on the boards answers we decide what category the film is under and issue a certificate to the cinema. It would get exhausting since sometimes i had to run across town, be on time and watch more movies. the board members were really stubborn, turning up just to sign in and leave expecting to get their cut. sometimes i just didnt know what to do because i felt it was just wrong.
The upside is i always got complimentary tickets, t-shirts, always had free lunch on the days we rated the movies (the cinema's always took good care of us) and i made really good contacts in the entertainment industry. The benefits of being in Public Relations i guess.
