Last week..Last Blog post...what to learn out of this:-)

Hey guys,
Hoping you'll have had good weeks at your placements and for those still going on your enjoying learning new things. Its my last week (thank God) and my last blog so i shall try make it interesting and helpful..

My workmates were just the best. I got the privilege of working with three wonderful ladies and they were older and wiser (they've had children all grown up)they seem to be alot less stress free which creates our working environment to be better and productive. i just loved them all :-)

My workload...went from high to low to high again. The sole purpose of a PR person was basically to find sponsors for their upcoming event in November and because of that i had to find sponsors and contact and send out printed sponsorship proposals to so many companies. some companies rejected my offer which really sucked but one accepted so far so i was happy atleast there was hope. But getting sponsors can be a great task without enough planning, from which organisations to focus on,calling them to ensure that they are ok with you sending out proposals to them and actually typing out the proposals and sending them out. It was confusing for me at fast because i didnt know how to plan myself but with time i learnt the trick of organisation "which i would think was the best key to use from the word go" but i got the hang of things.

what you can learn from this...basically ORGANISATION is the key to everything. to time management, to doing a good job, to finishing off well. Its just the key plain and simple. and also when having to dea with making phonecalls, the key thing to realise is the worst they can do is blast you and hang up on you and since you dont know their faces, it will not in anyway affect you in the outside world. So if someone does something thats painful or annoying, just remember its over the phone and thats as far as it can go,so dont panic just keep going strong and try other people and stay hopeful. thats just how i got through with the many phonecalls i had to make throughout this placement.

Lastly (realised if your post is too long people tend to peruse through without reading, especially if the heading is not captivating) hehe...anyway For everyone who still has many more days to go...ALL THE BEST and to the ones who have finished and like me are in their last sem and looking forward to life with no school and assignments (its about time yeaaaayyyy!!!!) all the best guys!!!!

Hi Miriam,
Great to hear you have got so much from your internship. I've got 2 days left in mine and I have to agree one of the most important lessons I've learnt is that organisation is the key! I've learnt alot from my experience but that is the one thing that keeps consistent, if you are organised then you are so much more prepared to handle the unexpected and you'll benefit from it so much.

Good luck in the future with your career!

Organisation: it so important to be organised, but one thing I have learnt is that you CAN’T prepare for every single scenario. You need to be able to deal with problems as they arise and this can include the unexpected. For example: I coordinated a corporate stand at the Australian Oil and Gas Exhibition. Everything was going along smoothly. However, the catering company got the food orders all confused and we did not get food until three hours after we ordered it, and then it only enough for two people, not ten people as had been ordered and paid for. Naturally, our staff members were starving hungry and we could not offer anything to the potential clients visiting our stand which was very unprofessional and embarrassing. Being organised does help. I had all the paperwork to confirm all the catering that was supposed to arrive in my trusty event file. If I did not have that with me, it would have made things more difficult. BUT... be prepared for the unexpected. That's my tip of the day.

Hi Miriam,

I liked your last post and could not agree more with you,
organization IS the key to everything.
The bank I worked with was organized in general but in some areas they were lacking.
As a result, some of the customers grew impatient and started complaining.
Even personally, it is always good to be organized as that is the only way you can juggle everything and get everything done.
We are both lucky to have nice colleagues. Having nice co-workers really did make a big different to my placement and I felt very comfortable at the office. They were all very friendly and helpful.

Good luck with everything and all the best to you,
Ashta
