PR in the wine industry part 3

Hey Guys,

Just giving you an update on how my placement has been going so far. I am now in my last week at Leeuwin Estate and have been loving working with everyone here. For the past fortnight I have been organizing wine tasting events, designing tasting booklets, wine tasting mats and being involved in the general day to day running of the organization.

I’ve also been spending quite a bit of time researching and compiling some specific information that is to aid in the development and planning of the annual Leeuwin Concert and also the potential artist that may be approached for Leeuwin Summer Concert Series 2010. While it has been particularly time consuming the information that I have gained will help aid with preparation for the major events and also means that a database of records will be on hand for reference points ranging from past event performers, venues, and competing events, organizations and wineries.

I was also given the opportunity to attend an intimate wine tasting event which I helped organize and designed information material for. It was a great experience to see how relevant the information material was for the smooth running of the tasting, particularly that this information was essential for those who were attending. It was also great to see the effect of having a CEO or founder of an organization present at such an event. I believe that the running of the tasting by the owner of Leeuwin Estate created a really great environment and it was good to see how an affective and appropriate spokesperson at events, no matter the size, can really help to portray the organization in a positive way. It also really showed the wineries commitment to a range of stakeholders.

That’s about all for this blog! Thanks for reading guys.

Cheers

Hi Zoe,
Wow your internship sounds really exciting! I worked for a summer in a small winery Cellar Door on the south coast a few years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life!
How lucky that you get to experience the tasting sessions - I'm jealous!
In my time at the cellar door I was involved in organising wedding and Christmas party functions as well as special tasting sessions for tour buses. I found it all really exciting and managed to snag myself the position of running some of the events which was incredibly stressful but I finally found a use for my terrible bossiness that people have told me about my whole life.
All of this experience combined cemented the fact that PR was definitely what I wanted to do. And ultimately I would love to end up back in the Wine industry again!

Hi Zoe,

I have to agree with Rachel and your internship really sounds like fun. And I really envy your job there at Leeuwin Estate! Must be a lot of drinking throughout your internship as well. I did a research paper on Leeuwin Estate once and they are an amazing company, and it's really lucky of you to have met the CEO. What you've mentioned is true, spokesperson play a vital role in developing a positive perception for a company. All the best!
