The Search for a sponsor!

Hello Everyone,

This is my first blog, ever! I am a bit behind times i know but i am also not much of a computer person Microsof Office and Facebook are probably my only two strong points.

I have done my work experience placement with Momentum Forum. It is an organisation that organises events to raise money for a number of charities. Some include International Women's Day Luncheon, Melbourne Cup Luncheon, Pink Ribbon Ball and Men in Black Ball.

The Saturday just gone saw the Men in Black Ball take place with huge success! It was a great night of dancing, amazing food and amazing opportunities to donate money to the recipient charity beyond blye: the National Depression Initiative.

All our auction items and raffle tickets sold out which was fantastic and everyone had a great time supporting a great cause.

In a previous comment I made on Ashta's blog i found it so exciting to be put under time pressure and have to stick to a schedule and a run sheet for the night. Definitely for this section of the PR industry you need to have exceptional organisational skills and i definitely surprised my self in that area.

There are just some many thing you need to be aware of when working an event. Last miniute guests is something that you must always plan for, always and amazing attention to detail is an absolute must.

I think that completing the PR degree, although there is not a specific unit that details the ins and outs of event management and planning, really prepares you for a career in this industry. The rest of the PR couse unlyingly does prepare you. Writing a crisis management plan and putting on an event do not really enatil the same procedures but both need careful planning, attention to specific details, contingencies and a need to take care of the target group and all of this is under some sort of time constraint. Group assignments are is also something that really sets you for working in the PR industry, in any industry actually. I had to work with 6 girls on the night of the Men in Black Ball and being able to work as a team, understand your responsibilities and bring your best to the table is vital part in making an event run smoothly. These are the same as being part of a group assignment.

Momentum Forum does a great job fundraising for so many charities and the next event i am looking forward to being involved in is the Pink Ribbon Ball in October. Naming rights to the ball are open now so if anyone knows a company with an interest please email Barbara at momentumwf@westnet.com.au.

Hey,

I found it interesting to read your blog. I found it as interesting as I am working with an organisation that is holding Masquerade Charity Ball. We are also having a private and silent auction, along with dance and musical performances.

I never thought of planning for last minute guests! I am so glad you told me about that because now I can prepare for the event I am working with at the end of the year.

I have also learnt the importance of planning and immaculate organisational skills whilst working on an event. It is amazing how many things go into an event. It involves everything from a light bulb to having a host.

Your prac sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks for the info. I have definitely learnt something that will help with my future positions!

Cheers, Farha
