Hello everyone!
This is my first blog and I am moving into my 4th week of internship in Citizen Advocacy South Metropolitan (CASM). So far, working in a non profit organization has given me an in depth understanding of how they operate in a really tight budget and minimal manpower, as well as how they work to get sponsors and donations.
CASM organized a quiz night which will be held on the 4th of September and with no budget, we have sent out letters informing companies about this Quiz Night and asking for a small donation which will go towards the Quiz Night prizes.
Since starting my first day of internship in CASM, i have been doing plenty of sponsorship follow ups which have been very tiring and frustrating. I had to call up more than 50 different companies to check whether they have received the letter as well as asking whether donations will be given. In response, there are some yes with the majority of them saying no which is kind of disappointing.
Aside from that, I have to be patient and call multiple times in order to speak to the right person. As i report back, one of my supervisor (Glenda) said:" This job requires us to be persistent and thick skinned".
Besides making all these phone calls, i also did some admin work such as photocopying, cutting and compiling of the answer sheets and tickets for the Quiz Night. My supervisor and I also sort out the prizes for the Quiz Night as well as preparing the raffle tickets which has been very time consuming.
Lastly, I have been asked to help out in the event and I am really looking forward to the Quiz Night!
I shall keep you posted and I will try to upload some pictures of the event. See you!
Regards,
Hendro Braristo
