Hello everyone!
After doing a few weeks of work experience with Mills Wilson Communications, I have started my official PR393 placement at Professional Public Relations (PPR). Hopefully my time at Mills Wilson will allow me to compare and contrast the two experiences over the next four weeks at PPR.
Whilst the people at Mills Wilson were relatively friendly/helpful, I never really felt welcome during my time there. On my last day, I brought in cupcakes for all of the staff - and to my dismay some of them didn't even know there was a work experience student/that I'd been there for the past five weeks! I don't think the "corporate culture" at Mills Wilson was very welcoming for new employees or work experience students and I was happy to be moving on at the end of my time there...
Now I'm at PPR where things are VERY different. For one, it is much larger than Mills Wilson (I think there are about 40 staff here) making it the largest PR consultancy in WA. Last year it was awarded Australian PR Consultancy of the Year by the Holmes Report, an amazing award to receive.
I like the culture and the structure here a lot more. There are consultants, senior consultants, account managers, group directors etc so everyone understands what is expected of them and who to go to when they need work/guidance.
So far I have been given lots of work from different areas of PPR - the company is split into Marketing Communications, Corporate and Investor Relations.
Will report back soon!

Hey Yvette, it seems that the people at Mills Wilson are really busy! It is too bad that they did not notice you, but I'm glad that you moved on to PPR which seems like a really really good company.
As for myself, my first few weeks in Citizen Advocacy South Metropolitan has been really enjoyable. I believe that the corporate culture in my organization is very laid back and relaxed.
My supervisors and me tend to spend time chit chatting, discussing on news and also discussing about the organization's upcoming events. We tend to joke a lot that we did not do our work! However, this informal communication really
made me feel very welcome and at home.
Well, good luck with your internship and have a great fun! Can't wait to get over mine!
Take Care!
