my first phone interview!

A big hello to everyone. Hope everyone is still enjoying thier experience at thier respective places. It has been yet another week of being at Alzheimer's WA and still, the experience and learning process continues on and opens my eyes even wider.
First and foremost, i would like to talk about the internal newsletter that was just been circulated in the organisation. As i have mentioned in my earlier post before, i was given the task of compiling the internal newsletter for the month of September. And finally it has been printed and circulated! yay for that! Although the newsletter may not be up to standard as the usual monthly publication, but there were still many good feedbacks from the staff. It was of course as i have said bin my previous post that this is my first time doing a internal newsletter that really circulates in reality instead of it just being a assignment. I take this as a good encouragement to do better. Of course i also got some pointers from my supervisor who is always kind and helpful in teaching me how to improve my work.
At the same time, I have been involved in helping to plan our upcoming event which is the memory walk fund raising event which would be held at Curtin itself. It is indeed an exciting event and the organisation has been doing lots of publicity to get more participants and donors to sponsor others to walk this track at Edinburgh Oval.
I had the task of getting contact with other universities to put up our posters and enquire about how we could publish our release to the students and staff at respective universities. I had a chance to visit ECU as i was sent there by my supervisor to put up posters there. Of course it was an experience as i was carrying the name of the organisation with me.
Other than that, i was asked to do phone interviews with a few people regarding thier involvement in participating at the walk. These people were carers of the people with dementia (Alzheimer's). This was of course meant for the media release to be publish at respective local community newspapers which they come from. At first i was rather afraid of doing an interview as i was afraid of screwing things up or making a fool of myself. But i realise that the people were actually very nice and friendly to be interviewed. My supervisor gave me some pointers of what kind of questions i should ask. Other than that, i was on my own on how i conduct the interview.
In the end, i found out that it wasn't as scary as it seems as long as i have prepared what i should ask and how i would carry myself as a representative.
After these process of phone interviewing, i had the opportunity to write up media releases for the local papers. It was definitely a different expereince from writting releases which we do for our PR 250 assignments. There were a of things to take account into writting the releases. It was of course a tough call on which angle or how i should write the story to ensure that the media would actually publish this. Again, i had to learn from my mistakes by being corrected and taught how to by my surpervisor.
Till then, i shall write again of another new experience. And people, do join the 'Memory Walk' event which would be held at Curtin Edinburgh Oval on the 20th September!

Cheers,
Sharon
