Post-Quiz Night and the Upcoming Golden Spokes

Hey guys!

I attended a Quiz night organized by my organization on the 4th of September. This event attracted more than 300 people and managed to raise approximately $5000. Guess all the hard work pays off!

During the event i get to help out by selling raffles ticket, table quizzes, pick-a-number game etc. Aside from that, I am also the camera man for the day (well I tried my best)! This event allows me to meet the different board members of the organization and do some networking. One of the main thing I learn is that, you must be committed and enthusiastic in what you do.

Also, I learn how to run an event and pick up responsibility. One example is that the microphone's battery went flat and the microphone went dead. Because of this, the quiz master and anyone who wanted to make an announcement needed to shout across the hall. So, I decided to volunteer and drive all the way home to get the battery. This might be a small gesture, but it contributed to the event in ensuring the event running smoothly. At the end of the event, the board members, friends and myself stayed back and help clean up the place as well as moving all the tables and chairs back to where it is supposed to be. All I can say is that this event was a blast and everyone really enjoyed themselves!

Ever since the event, my supervisors and myself have been busy working on the organization's next major event: The Golden Spokes Charity Bike Ride. The Golden Spokes Charity Bike Ride will be held on the 8th of November at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre at Armadale. Fortunately for me, I get to attend a board meeting discussing the details as well as getting to contribute my ideas. Through this board meeting, I get to meet the event coordinator for Golden Spokes, Pat Giles, and network with him!

For the planning of Golden Spokes Charity Bike Ride, my task is to compile a list of corporate contact details of all the major organizations in Perth as well as sourcing out free promotional media as we have limited budget. This is very important because without this list, the organization will not be able to proceed to the next step of calling them, informing them and getting them to participate in the event. With school work and task assigned to me, guess I have to have a good time management!

But till then, I will keep you posted and hopefully everyone is enjoying their internship!

Oh yes, below are some of the pictures I took during the Quiz Night.

Hey Hendro,

The event sounds like great fun. It's always a good thing to work at a small organisation as you will have the chance to learn other things (Photography, etc).

In my workplace, everything is so rigid and bureaucratic. Even if i want to talk to a staff member, I have to email them beforehand. Having said that, I still like working at my place.

It's great to know that you've the chance to encounter a crisis during your internship (the flat battery). Though it's a small crisis, I guess it's always important to run a checklist before the event. Small things like these always have disastrous repercussions.

Oh, did you check out the last photo you've posted? The lady has a creepy smile...
