The recent fund raising event held at Curtin was a very suscessful one. As preparation for the event, i was asked to write up some news releases to several media ( which i've mentioned about in previous post before). And the turn out was good! We had several news papers which published the news that i've written. The style of the news release was written by using diagnosed patients and the carers which are particpipating in the Memory Walk event to promote the event to locals from various suburbs. As i have mentioned earlier about the phone interviews with the carers. One of the local newspapers (Kalamunda, Midland) even emailed me to ask if they could get a shot of the patient with her husband in thier walking gear to spice up the news to the locals. The feeling of successful feedback from the media was really great!
Other than writing news releases for the local newspapers, i was also asked to fax the CSA to various different radio stations. We also had some feedbacks from certain radio stations who are interested. One of the stations called the same day when i faxed out the CSA! And honestly, the feeling of something really working out for the big event we have all been preping for was just amazing.
Talking about writing news releases, one of the events which i have to write a news releases to the media was about the rockingham family reterat organised by the Alzheimer's Australia WA Mandurah branch. Same as the previous releases, i learn from my mistakes and how to make it much more 'juicy' to make the media interested and willing to publich our release.
My task during the last week of my palcement at the Alzheimer's Australia WA was to do lots of preparation for the big fund raising event which includes putting the information and free Curtin tumbler sponsore by Curtin into the goodie bags, and putting the flags together for the walk.
One of my other task after the event was to put information packs for new members to be send out as well. Also, there were lots of letters to be put into envelopes to be send out to people who donated for the Memory Walk.
Hope everyone is enjoying their respective placements!
Sharon
