Hello everyone,
I am coming to an end in my placement in the Department of Education and Training. I have a week to go, which is both sad and exciting. There are so many people here that have helped my understanding and knowledge of pr and media over the past months. I am so gratful that they shared their knowledge with me.
As one of my last tasks I am part of a media announcement for the education system. This morning I was abvle to go out with the head of media and look at the location and plan the positions for the media within the school and brief the teachers and principal on what the media might say/ do. I picked up so many different tips by listening on the briefings before briefing my own teacher. Little hints like don't retort to a statement made by journalist, always bring the comment back to the original ideas of the conference. For example, do you have under privileged children? Instead of replying No there are no under privileged children you should reply, there are many issues that the children face within the school. That way the media can't make a grab and make it look like you came up with the idea of under privileged children.
Tomorrow is the actual media announcement, so I need to be up early so that I can be there when children start arriving at the school and the media are aware of where to set up and don't get lost. Even though it is a good announcement, it is not the most interesting topic, so the department hopes that media does come tomorrow. Personally, I hope they do so I can see how an announcement works with the media and minister!
Putting the briefing skills into practice from the theory was great experience this morning. Especially as there is a statement with the minister that has been planned. It was also interesting to see how a place is picked to make the statement, there is some construction underway at the school so the place needed to be picked carefully so there was no sound interference.
Hope everyone is enjoying their placements!
Happy report writing!
Bec
