wrapping up at Alzheimer's WA

It was a Tuesday that i finally finished my last day of placement at the Alzheimer's Australia WA. My boss (supervisor) was very nice to organised an afternoon tea as a farewell for me from all the staff from the organisation. My CEO was also very nice to even give me a hug before i stepped out of the office.
During my placement days at the organisation, i have indeed learnt a few things that would really help me when i step into the working world of PR. At the same time, i learnt a lot more an gain a better understanding on what Alzheimer's is all about.
I have learnt on how to write a proper media release based on the style of the organisation. Which also means that different organisation and different companies has different style of writing their media releases to the media. This is all about consistency in the company of portraying which ever organisation and company.
Working at the Alzheimer's enabled me to mingled a lot with the elderly people. Not just the diagnosed patients and thier carers, but also most of the staff working at the organisation are mainly people who are elderly. I really was happy working there as i have a compasion for the older group of people. Of course, some are not easy to talk to or socialised with but mostly, they are very kind and nice. I could also feel and see that they are indeed happy to socialise with young people especially when they have difficulty in physical movements. It was indeed a joy working with these people.
I have to say, although i may not have many task that requires me to do but mainly packing stuff and preparing for the events, i really did enjoy being part of helping out and assisting the preparation of the events held during the period of my placement. My superior's actually do take my ideas into consideration which was a good thing for me as it helps me practise my creative skills of preparing or writing media releases. It may be small ideas, but it was a good practise overall.
I really feel that my decision to work in the Alzheimer's Australia WA was a good decision as it was one of my desire to be part of events and more so, to work with elderly people whic i really loved. Gaining a better understanding on Alzheimer's was also a plus point to my experience as a family member of mine has dementia.
In this growing world, dementia is something that is becoming more and more a prominent desease in elderly people. It helps me to learn to look out for symptoms and what could be done to help and care for the diagnosed people.
Having said all this, i am pretty much satisfied with my working experience at this organisation which wraps up what i have learned there. It was indeed a pleasure to have such nice bosses that is always there to teach me something new.
Hope everyone is still having a good time at thier respective placement.
Cheers,
Sharon
