Sitting down with your colleagues to brainstorm about something could be a daunting task especially if there is a lot of disagreements, but it could turn into something fun when you all seem to be headed to the same direction. But what is important is that you come up with a GREAT idea/plan. My agency is trying to get new clients, and it is not as easy as just approaching them and telling them you want to offer your PR services to their business. An organisation wants to know what excatly will you do for them, do they really need you and how effective will your services be to their business.
One of the companies (To remain anonymous)that we are trying to get is relatively new in Malaysia (2 months) and its we have to consider their customers. So me and my collegues were brainstorming on how we can offer PR services that cater to this clientelle. It was a fun process as were pretending to be the targeted customers-and mind you this is the people we are very different from (we can only wish we will be like them sometime in our life). Trying to come with how 'our' daily lifestyle is; what do 'we' do when they wake up,what sports do 'we' follow, what hobbies do 'I' get up to everyday (even unethical actions). We came up with what cars 'we' would drive, credit card, brands 'we' wear or use (even browsed through magazines and newspapers that are targeted to them to find out who advertise in them). What outlets would 'we' use-banks,shops,residential.
After coming up with their daily lifestyle activities, we started thinking of PR work we can do that can fit into this lifestyle. We also had to consider what media would be interested in covering those activies or stories. Then the other thing we brainstormed on was how we can tie some of our already existing clients to be involved in some activies we have come up with for this new client, for example, we have a bank as 1 of our already existing clients. So we want to suggest to them to work with this new client- if a customer uses a credit card from this bank to purchase then they can get a certain discount. But of course the clients have to agree on the tie-ins we suggest. We ended up coming up with some idea for how we can offer them our services. The boss lady-Dato Seri Selina Yeop Junior, has to go through them first before finalising the activies we are going to suggest.
We can only hope at the pitching of our idea, this client will understand where we are goings with these plans, and how these ideas will work out for the company's image, getting it's presence recognised as it is a new place...and increase sales of course as our activities are aimed at getting customers and keeping them coming back for more.
Cheers
