In today's era, marketing cannot go without public relations. I have engaged my knowledge and skills i have learned in public relation classes in to a real life experience, and thanks to intenship. The company i'm working for is 4Thirteen Media and it deals much with events management. I practically work closely with the company Manager to come up with some strategies to tackle clients who seek to promote and build long term brand on their products with their customers. We worked on the event a day after i started my practical and we were promoting a potato chips product for a certain client. The attendiees were members of the community, and highly position partners from different branches to show support for their product and also to observe if we were representing them accordingly. It was my first working day and due to excitment i ended up performing many roles even those i wasn't assigned to, but this pleased the Manager as he considered me as a hard working person. We made sure that all activities are organized and strategically planned so that we don't fail in building a long-term partnership with the client. I was assigned to monitor and supervise other crew members to ensure that we all following what we were suppose to do. I helped in taking pictures which was to be used in the press release and concisely it was successful as i was instructed by the co-founder of the company Ms Doreen. I also worked closely with the members of The Press, as i distributed the gifts which we prepared for them and they were happy receiving all this.
The event just brought me to a real world of performing pr functions. I enjoyed it, having fun at the same time, although it was hectic throughout.
Much more to come;
thanks...

Yes, That's what PR is, building a long term relationship for our client to all the key public. Im sure you gonna experience more PR activities sooner.
One thing very crucial about event is planning. Remember "If you failed to plan, You plan to fail."
Geraldine is right. Without the key publics a client would not be existing. Therefore it is up to us- as PR firms or Departments to ensure that we have a good relationship with our key publics.
I believe the external publics are usually difficult to impress. A client too can be difficult, but impressing your client's customers is even more difficult because they are already bombarded by other products. And they need you to give them a better reason to choose you.
It also important to involve or invite your internal publics, such as those from other departments and branches. this not only show that you need their support, it also shows them that you consider them part of the team,thus a strong relationship with them too.
I enjoyed reading your post as it gave me an insight into what it is like working with clients and the media to build long-term relationships.
I actually wanted to do my placement with an events company, however I received an opportunity with a government department.
What I have found different about working in a department compared to a consultancy or events company is that you might have a lot of clients to handle. On the other hand, a public relations role in a big department may look after only internal communications.
Looking forward to hearing more about your placement and I hope you enjoy your time there.
