Event management

I am back with new edition on my current situation and working experience at PDQ. As I mention earlier PDQ is an agency that offers services like marketing, advertising and public relation communication.

After working here for a while I begin to know how PR practitioners work because last week my company prepared a very tentative package to one of their client called Green Packet which was instigated on 11 February 2010, at Jalan Templer Petaling Jaya.

The event was great and very effective which I learned a lot from and I even contributed, for calling media to know whether they received our invitation emails and to confirm whether they can be able to cover the event or not.

Interims of event I lean how PR personnel appear to the event right from their dress up to the way they welcome the media personnel and giving them the event guide line, and press release. at the event I was also opportune to be one of the PR personnel that registered the reporter and direct them to the event hall before that we registered them /reporters in such a way that they should write down their details or to present their cards, so that if there is any error during the event we can easily call them back for immediate correction.

Furthermore after the event we sent the press release to some media houses that did not attend for some reasons. and a day after the event I did the media monitoring where i monitor the media publications to trace our event and I discovered that many media has publish us, then I cut all the article concerning the event I scanned them and sent them to my boss.

In conclusion before penning up I will like to appreciate my boss, Adelene Tan and PDQ in general for giving me this opportunity to see how PR work in real life.

Finally regards to those that sacrifice their time to read this interesting post hope you enjoy it, watch out for many more that are coming soon.

Hello Adamu

This is truly an interesting post. I am glad you are learning a lot and seem to be enjoying your work.

One point that was of interest to me is the mentioning of the following up on the media and seeing to it that they attend the event. I have had the privilege to do the same and i would say that i have learnt two important things.

1. Sometimes the media would turn down the offer at the last minute so there should always be a backup of other medias.

2. Having Good Media Contacts often results in better media coverage. Knowing key journalists aids to secure excellent coverage for the organisation.

The other thing is that ensuring that a company/event is being publicized consistently in a positive light (Media Monitoring). ensuring that all articles are collected and filed under client's references for future use.

I always say that this is rather a difficult task as sometimes there is a possibility that one misses out on a particular media type. However though the new technology has brought about Research software that aids in evaluating media coverage so this then makes the job easier and no article are missed.

Wishing you all the best on your report writing and your intern days.

Keep Well.
