According to online dictionary personality is defined as the complex of qualities and character seen in an individual, such qualities are seen as being capable of making, or likely to make, a favourable impression on other people. Personality is a vital factor in the practices of Public Relation (PR); it will make you to stand out from the crowd. Good communication skills, confidence, are required in the profession of PR in order to manage and maintain the company’s image which is what PR is all about.
It’s now three weeks since I have started my internship with Samanea PR and its moving towards interesting prospect because I’m improving day by day. I have started to enjoy the real world of PR, from cooperate dressing to conference meetings and imbibing with the rightful language to use in communicating to diverse people on daily basis.
It is getting more interesting working on media monitoring and updates, and learning how to manage our clients. I’m also doing a lot of media collaterals especially the news releases, feature articles and Q & As. But the throbbing part is when the boss returns your work with red pen all over for corrections. Even though it’s very tiring, but I take pleasure in doing it because I know it’s the training I need to improve my writing skills. I just had my first presentation and it really went well more than I expected because of the little I have learned in PR under my internship. I truly believe that the essence of PR is having self-confidence, interesting ideas, and how to express it, when and where to express it, in order to satisfy your clients desire(s) which will make you to stand out from other consultancies.
PR is all about communication and the basic form of communication is spoken and written word(s), and the secret of writing in PR is continues practice. Keep on writing as much more possible articles not only at work but even during your free time and also form the habit of reading in variety to help you develop a more formal and cooperate writing ability. I believe you will end up taking pleasure in it.
Therefore I want to encourage you all to give in your best, and take everything you do seriously, be free and comfortable to ask questions on the things you don’t understand in your work place. And most importantly, when you are given any assignment(s) strive to meet up with the deadline. Keep in mind that no one is perfect, we learn from our mistakes and last but not the least believe and trust in what you are doing, always ready to confront the challenges that will come your way with the mindset that success is the only option.
Thanks!
Shiroi Bats.
