Crisis Management

Hey everyone,

Hope all you fellow interns are doing just fine, well just the other day i experienced a real crisis at work and wanted to share it with you. Well my university decided to hold a concert to raise money for the people of Haiti. Usualy we make a press release prior to an event so that when the event starts we can have time to hand them out to the media as they arrive with no husstle.
So as usual we get the names of the popular visitors or any VIP and on this particular event it was Miss Malaysia, so my boss tells us just "Google her name am sure you will be able to find her names there" because am not too sure..... So we got her name am put it on the media release. During the event the journalists realize that the name of the Miss Malaysia is Chinese but the girl walking in is Indian Malay!
So we had to rush back to the office and make new press releases then hand them out again after the event we then realized that the name we had put was actually the current Miss Malaysia and not Miss world Malaysia which were two different people.
From that day i now knew why it was so important for people to have a crisis management team on stand by all the time. This may have been a small issue that we could clearly handle and apologize for there and then but if the situation was much bigger and worse then we would have certainly had it from the "guys on top".
Crisis management should also be a part of all public relations aspiring practitioner's because besides doing assignments in class about it i think practical's would be a better way for students to be better equip their internship.
