PR and HR

Hi everyone.
I'm currently completing my placement at the Department for Communities.
It is quite a large department with the head office located at Dumas House in West Perth. Although I'm based in the Community Relations section of the department, we work closely with HR as well as some sectors of government funding.
My supervisior is currently the main internal communicator. A lot of my work so far has been internal communications (in particular news of the day articles) and I've picked up a lot skills in the area of employee communications, in particular communicating with staff on the Intranet. I've come to realise that it is an important tool. More important than I orginally thought, as more people actually use the intranet than I thought would.
One factor that I have come to realise is how specific you need to be when it comes to HR policies, especially when you are communicating important factors to staff members. I have found it hard to try and stick to HR 'style' whilst trying to communicate information in a way that staff members who are not in the HR department will understand. This was the case when I completed a recent intranet article about a stop-work rally.
As my supervisor put it... "HR has a very specific way of doing and saying things." And thus, since then I have tried not to stray too much from the brief I have been given!
