I NEVER IMAGINED EVENT PLANNINGTHIS STRESSFUL

Greetings guys... this week we were planning on product launching. One of our clients is launching a fitness product called TRX. This is a fitness product , it is an all in one product used for exercise. This product is well designed in a way that it can be used at anytime in any place by anyone. Its can be used by both the disabled and the able.

This is a Singapore product being introduced in Malaysia for the first time. That being the case we have to plan a spectacular launch. We had our minds thinking all day, brainstorming on what to do and what not to do. choose a place most suitable for the event. Call media for coverage on that day, and also for advertising. We had to choose the most successful form of media best suiting the product to introduce to the public. It was such a headache. From the smallest things as seating arrangement, color of chairs, and others to big things like choosing a securing the desired venue that can serve purpose.

When i had to call the media, i realized that this is what i learned in class in PR 250, media relations. It is very good to have good relation with the media, because they play a big role
in the building of company, they are the backbone because they can either make you or break you. Media relations are good in building the company's image. It increases publicity of the company to different people , and reaches large masses of people. It is also helpful in times where there is a crisis and the company needs he media to rectify the problem causing the crisis.

In media relations is also about dealing with selected contacts on a regular basis thus it becomes simple and easy for me as my company had existing good relations with the media we choose.
I acquired so much information about event planning and its usefulness and importance and that it is not as easy as well think. Pulling up a big event is one of the most stressful duties to do, you have to hope for the best, and expect the worst. It was such an experience, as i had never planned an event before.

we will also be using a celebrity as a spokeperson at our event. the reason why we use a celebrity is because celebrities can bring value through their high public profile, which can cut through and call for attention. We will be using a radio personality from Fly fm. Just like pharmaceutical company Astrazenea did by using a variety of celebrities to draw attention to community health issues. But all in all i really enjoyed the whole planning, even though it was tiring but it was worthwhile

Have u guys planned events???

It is such a great experience to learn about the role of the media in organisations. It is very true what we learnt in class that organisations should work hand in hand with the media to build a positive image and a good relationship.Planning an event is quite a challenge,it was amazing that my company is planning an event in October but the made seriious preparations about the event as early as possible to ensure that everything is in place.

thank you Boni
i have realized that all we learnt in pr 250 is what exactly that happens in the office. and it is good to plan ahead, and what your company did was a good thing because then they can foresee obstacles ahead, and they have ample time to change.

Hey Trish!

Yes I've had to plan, organise and run an event during my placement and it is such hard work! I've learnt so many more things through real experience. We had well over 200 guests at our event, including celebrities. Some of the little details I didn't even think about were:

- Celebrities/designers 99.9% of the time have to be contacted (to attend the event) via an agent or PR company. I never really understood how celebrities were invited to events until now.

- if there are sponsors of the event, you must display signage around the event and it is also nice to take photos of attendees around the sponsorship signs. For example, one of our sponsors were Polaroid. They sent us four polaroids and we took photos on the polaroid and gave the pictures to attending guests. We also took a few photos from the event and sent them back to Polaroid.
Another sponsor was Wowcow ice cream and we took photos of some of the models eating the ice cream.

- There are a few restrictions when holding your event in a nightclub. (i.e. you cannot have Fuji water as a sponsor if the club stocks Mt Franklin).

Those are a few things that I never really thought about till it was brought to my attention in planning/working at the event.

I hope you aren't too stressed out and that the event ran smoothly!
