This week I was involved in updating the website content for KL-The Guide, which is a travel guide published by the Bluedale Publishing.Basically, the guide helps tourist to be able to navigate around Kuala Lumpur easily,it gives them insightful and comprehensive information about tourist attractions, restaurants to eat in,shopping etc. This task involved in a lot of researching and my supervisor constantly emphasized the need to credit my sources which we have learnt in PR.
Also i had the chance to take the minutes for the general meeting, which helped me understand the importance of a company to constantly discuss issues with their employees.Another important factor the CEO mentioned that it is important for the company to constantly keep in touch with employees,as the basis of a successful company is having effective communication with the employees. Employee relations is one of the contributing factors in the success of the company. It is evident that when employees work in a conducive and nurturing environment they are motivated to produce quality results.
Additionally, professionalism and time management in the real world is not a joke, just like in campus late submission means deduction of marks,in the industry failure to meet deadlines disrupts the operation of the company and may even cost the company money. Most importantly, during my three weeks i have learnt the importance of respecting clients and ensuring that they are given the best service. This is pretty much PR,in that PR is all about maintaining a symmetrical communication with all the relevant stake holders which builds a positive image about the company.Maybe to end my post,i would like to leave something to think about:
What do you think about the role of employee relations in a company?
Cheers!!

Well.. Public Relations is all about communication; be it between stakeholders and the company, the company and clients or even employees and their leaders. What matters is keeping each other informed on things to be done and how to do them. By holding meetings with the employees the company makes them feel free and cooperative in the work place. they also find it easier to work with the clients located to them.
hey Bonny
the technical stuff is important too in pr. so you have moments where you are a pr technician and a practitioner. i think this is good because its opening you up to a wider market since you would have had your finger in various pies. as for the role of employee relations i would say they are pretty vital to the success or failure of the company as the employees are the company. we have to get along and be able communicate well with each other in order to productively work together. bad employee relations are really counter productive and can paralyze the company. how do you work well with your stakeholders if you cannot work well with your colleagues?
Hey Boniface...
With all the big terms you are using from the fisrt blog I am convienced you are learning more and more everydaylol!!
What I love about PR is its like our daily lives. Everyone wants to keep a good reputation and in doing that we keep good relations with other people. the eviroment we create for our friends and the atmosphere we set for them keeps them loyal just as much as its easy to loose good friends by not treating them well.
It is true also for companies to keep loyal emplyees they have to create a good enviroment for them. All stakeholders need to be attended to at all times.
Great to hear that your are learning everyday...good luck with the coming weeks
helo boniface
stake holder relations is the core heart of the business, organisation or companies. every step taken in the company employees must know and this will help to fortify a good relationship between them and the company they are working for.
i think thta employees are part of the company family...haha more like extended family.
Boikanyo Neo Motekwane here! Stakeholders are the backbone of the organization.Just imagine an organization without any relation to the media, community etc 'An organization without stakeholders, is like a ship without a captain, it maneuvers everywhere until it is dilapidated' The relationship should start within the organization (employee relations) then expand to the outside.
You are really gaining a lot of experience. I can see that you are not only using Public Relations knowledge but also using your personal knowledge for example research and technology. What have you gained so far after minute taking? Communication within the company is very important as it creates bond, which leads to good results in the organisation.
Company employees are the backbone of the company, the strength of the organisation lies within them. Their relations determine their production within the company. If they have a good relation they will bring forth good fruits to the organisations. Ways of building relations within the employees should be established.
stakeholders are the root to any company, without them your are doomed! always make sure that swift communication is carried out at all times, you dont want to make them walk away from your company or have loss of trust! keep them next to your right hand!
hey Boniface Badubi-Tsalu
What i can say is issues arises in a workplace everywhere dear, so i think having that good relationship with your staff will make everything look good, one might ask, how? simple, with reference to Molly's comment communication is a very vital aspect that no company can do without because with it i believe the impossible can be possible, meaning that the results of productivity will be shown.
Respect and trust in a work place comes in a package with employee relations.
Great one-Enjoy
