It's my second week at the Association for the Blind of WA, and I am really enjoying myself. I started this week with a meeting regarding a Fee for Service program we are working on. I am helping to create more interest and attendances at the associations workshops held to help inform companies. This has involved a lot of brainstorming on how to present the workshops on the website and how to sell them to CEO's of big companies. These workshops are designed to help companies employ people with a vision impairment and work with them in the workplace, so they are very important! So far however the process has involved a lot of research and not much implementation, so I'm looking forward to seeing some action!
This week I began a lot of database work, looking up clients and guide dogs on the system. I had a bit of a play with the system as I had to write a number of thank-you letters to many different people, including those with vision impairments therefore the letters have to be specially designed.
Today I helped take a group from the the Perth Theater Trust on a guided tour of the Associations building. This was interesting to learn about the work they do at the Association and also to see how they run their tours.
Finally in my last post I failed to mention the Open Day I helped at in May. This was a fun event and I had a good time helping plan for the day. It involved making a running sheet for the day - a skill learnt in PR techniques of course, and it is quite a difficult task when you know there is actually going to be an event running by it rather than simply a fantasy one! It was fun to put all my skills into practice to plan and run the day. On the day I floated around the stalls, helping the children decorate ginger bread dogs and caring for the puppy's in the Puppy Play Ground! Working with the guide dogs is definitely the highlight of the job at the Association for the Blind - Guide Dogs WA.
